Re: Do you enjoy White Ports

I recently had bottle of Dalva (da Silva) 20 year old white port. Rather dry. An interesting experience!

Re: Long live port! (Also, have you a favorite dessert wine?)

Aside from tawnies and colheitas I enjoy marsala and occasionally Moscatels (Asti included). Also Banyuls sometimes. A recent discovery was a Cape Tawny which I like better than Aussie port.

Re: Weekday Ports

Dow's Colheita 2002 is a good weekday port. Not as nutty as I like best but a good price-quality ratio. I would imagine being that young it still has some fruity elements to it. Is that the case? Yes, it has a lot of fruityness. Still, as a whole better quality for the price compared to 10-year-olds.

It's got to be Taylor's Very Old Single Harvest 1964. Also Kopke Colheita 1979 was delicious.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Offley Colheita 1998. I bought this from a TallinkSilja ferry (Finland-Sweden) where I often purchase port wines as they have a different selection compared to the Finnish monopoly store. Previously the vintage was 1997 and I was surprised that it had changed. However, I find the 1998 just as good a...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Talk about a special occasion: This week the ABBA Live at Wembley Arena album came out. As it was recorded in 1979, I bought a bottle of Kopke Colheita 1979 to be enjoyed while listening to the album. :winebath:

Yes, definitely. I almost never buy other ports than tawnies and colheitas anymore.

I love Burmester 20 y.o. too. And it's great to have people from Finland and even from the same city here!

Re: What are the 5 best Colheita's you've had?

What a great topic about my favorite type of port! [cheers.gif] I have loved Kopke 1984 and 1989. Also Van Zellers 1991 was fantastic. Of some younger ones Offley 1997 has a wonderful price/quality ratio, at least in my part of the world. Portal 2000 was very good with a distinct spicy feel I haven'...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Dow's Colheita 2002. After drinking various 20/30-year-olds in a row this tastes too young.

Re: "Consumption pattern" revisited

I'm drinking slightly more. I think a year ago I was still trying out different styles (completely different dessert wines too) but as I've really found "my thing" (aged tawnies and colheitas) I've started to enjoy them more (in both quantity and quality).
