how about 2 twisted ropes that connect the vertical posts of the wine rack? the bottle necks can be held by those. i'm not sure if i explain it well though If you are worried about the hair bands failing you could use two bands, one attached to the left vertical post, the other to the right vertica...

hair ties lose their elasticity over time and even break by themselves. as long as the bottle can't fall because of that i guess you're good. Correct, they do lose their elasticity over time and I did break 2 of them while installing them but it is still the easiest/cheapest way I could come up wit...
