Re: Port development/aging question
I think 1980 as a vintage in general sits as a bit of an outlier in terms of port aging/development, when viewed against the decade before and after. Many ports I have tasted from 1980 including Dow, Graham, Warre, Gould Campbell, Taylor to name a few, are much darker in colour and show much younger...

Re: 1977 Cockburn VP

Re: Question about 1970 Taylor Vintage port
Looks fine to me. Just like the bottle we had at a TPF tasting on Wednesday night (see below). We had a "Sweet-spot vintages" tasting, where we tasted 66, 70 and 77 for each of Dow, Graham, Warre and Taylor. The Taylor 70 was our WOTN.

Re: Quinta do Noval 1963 Nacional for auction
There are eight bottles coming up at Christies in London: http://www.christies.com/salelanding/index.aspx?intSaleID=25201 Lots 636/7/8. Auction house estimates suggest about $2,500 per bottle... One lot of 2 bottles went for £3,290, another for 3 bottles went at $4,395. The final lot of 3 didn't se...

For sure.Tom Archer wrote:It's hard to guess how many people who buy these will subsequently realise just how much over the odds they paid, but I can't help feeling that those who do are not going to be very good ambassadors for Graham's, vintage port in general, or indeed the merchant who sold them the bond..

Re: Graham Port Bond
This is a no-lose proposition for SFE. If nobody buys them, they have lost little - perhaps a tiny fraction of a marketing budget. On the upside, there are a fair few people who know nothing and just want a nice present to gift to someone. I can see various outcomes down the line: people getting cal...

Re: 1985 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port
Since this was the same bottle as the note posted by Glenn, should the notes not be combined into the same thread? The same is true for all the other notes people have posted as different threads for the same bottle? No, as this way they appear as different TN's in the searchable Database. Is that ...

While European friends are not loving this ... I am enjoying watching the "affordability" factor increasing for those of us here on the other side of the pond. It's really only the Euro-using European friends who might not like this. Those of us in the UK are also seeing affordability fac...
