Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

I try not to buy a lot these days, but I couldn’t resist 48 half bottles of 2007 Vintage Port @ £12 per half. 12 each of Dow, Warre, Gould Campbell and Smith Woodhouse. I really like having a decent selection of halves at home for everyday drinking. These will be perfect once my 1994 / 1997 / 2000 ...

Re: Van Zellers & Co Port Aged Underwater

Mario Negreiros experimented with this (with red wine, not port). he aged wine underwater (Douro water that is) and the result compared to the same bottles in normal storage was that the underwater bottles seemed to have aged less but were far dirtier  after a short while on dry land there was ...

Re: possible 1945 port, producer/shipper unknown

i bought it. the seller told me about their family wine business. at some point they had 7 wine shops in Brussels and then the supermarkets started taking over. they satrted downsizing an at some point sold off all their remaining stock (i didn't get the date of this). their main business was bourgo...

Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week

2019 Passarella pedra do gato Dao. A very nice wine that improved quite a bit more by decanting. 2 days later there was still a glass in the bottle and it was still very enjoyable.

Re: possible 1945 port, producer/shipper unknown

That's a good point about the top right of a '3'. I can in my mind, however, make a rounded top right fit with what remains of the paint. Though admittedly it takes exactly the right loss of paint to make that work. Unlike the top left where such precision isn't necessary. So I waffle back to think...

Re: possible 1945 port, producer/shipper unknown

My only concern or I should say question on christening this as a possible Barros is how were the words "Porto" and "Barros" which would be 2 separate lines above 1945 be so cleanly erased? Everything else is relatively intact, but I don't see any trace of Porto or Barros at all...

Re: possible 1945 port, producer/shipper unknown

Barros is indeed a good candidate. it has the same font and it would show a 5 in this way. it also has the order of the words right. (i wanted to check Barros in the port vintages book but it's not in there) i also just saw the same seller has a bottle of Barros colheita 1957. Feuerheerd seems to ha...

possible 1945 port, producer/shipper unknown

i would lik to tap in to the combined vintage port wisdom here... a local private seller offers 1 bottle of port as a 1943. there is one photo and of course the last number is rubbed away a bit. but looking at the rest of the numbers and comparing them with others i think in this font the last numbe...

Douro Animus. Not great but not bad.
And today my favourite rosé. I have 4 bottles left and since the quinta/winery has been sold i can’t get new ones 😢.

Re: There he goes again

Quinta das Amendoeiras, it's also a lovely place to stay, he has multiple rooms in the big house and a new separate guest house overlooking the river and vinyards. (on the other side of the river is Vesuvio)
