Re: What have you opened this week?

I got 10 of these basic tawnies at auction for only $6.30 each all-in. There were no pictures, and for whatever reason, I believed they would be young, but oh no they are not. Luckily, they are still drinking perfectly fine. Somewhat simple smooth caramel, reminiscent of a young Portal White actual...

Re: What have you opened this week?

My annual get together down at the beach with my college buddies was this past weekend. As usual, I brought the Port and we had tastings on Friday and Saturday night. The first night were all white Ports and they went over better than I expected. The only time most of them have Port is when we get ...

Re: Visiting Quinta do Vesuvio - Now open to the public

It’s been open for these visits for 2-3 years now. Not cheap but worth every penny I’ve been told by someone who’s done it a couple times.

Re: Bottling date for Port

Selos are for tax purposes. The lodges buy them but don't have to use them immediately. I doubt most keep track of which lot of selos are used for which bottling run. A few Madeira producers keep track, but their bottling numbers are way, way less. Selo’s are tracked. At least to a bottling time an...

Re: Bottling date for Port

Modern rules for bottling port were changed in the late 1940’s.

Prior to that it was, largely, a free for all. Though most producers were still in the 2-3 yrs for VP. Some were much longer.

Symington Port Townhouse Coming Soon

In the middle of the city and easy to get to. Take a taxi, or Uber/Bolt. Parking would be really difficult, but practically nobody reading this post would be driving, so ... What’s the nearest metro station? Or bus stop? Nearest light rail is Hospital de Santo Antonio stop it seems. But Clerigos is...

Re: 2025 Beneficio: 75,000 barrels

USA wine issues are not a cycle this time. It’s a hard reset that won’t rebound to previous levels. For a variety of reasons, we’re seeing a complete change in people’s buying and drinking. Younger gen for health, pricing, and some others. Older, because they’ve got enough already and aren’t drinkin...

Re: Port Buying Decisions

My Port buying has slowed down significantly as I've got a pretty good stash now. So provenance is generally the first thing I look at. I would rather pay a little more knowing it was well stored.

Re: Do you find yourself drinking more, or less bottles of LBV?

Probably drinking more LBV's now than before. I love VP's and love them more on the mature side. That said, they are getting harder to come by as daily drinkers and aren't as cheap as they used to be. So LBV's have been filling in for VP's. I enjoy the younger softer side to them they offer. And a p...
