On St. Georges Day ... 2023 announcement

Taylor’s has announced Sentinel is being released. But oddly, no others mentioned.

Moderator's note: I've some posts about Sentinel from the Symington thread to this one so that the topics remain distinct.

I have one on death row for sometime this year. Glad to hear it's still doing very well.

Re: 1985 Ferreira vintage port

Another Ferreira not seen very often. Too bad it was slightly oxidized. But otherwise sounds like it was still a decently good bottle?

Is this Dow's Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira? Or something different?

Edit: It's Senhora da Ribeira.

Re: What have you opened this week?

A 2011 Kopke Colheita…that was corked. How rare is it for a t-corked tawny to be corked. Oh well, opened a lovely fully mature 1990 Quinta do Vesuvio VP as an emergency backup.

Re: 1985 Dow Vintage Port

Much like the 1963 Noval VP, there is bottle variation in this vintage of Dow’s. Some are as you describe and some that are still dark, complex and that have decades ahead of it.

Re: Recent Vintages of Port

Frederick, I have a different take on 1997s. They were absolutely beasts when young, boldly fruited and brutally tannic monsters, similar to 2007 VPs at birth, a decade later. The 1997s I've had post-Covid have been generous and easy to approach, very drinkable and excellent. Not one seemed to be s...

Re: Breaking News: Menin buys Bulas

Wow. Who owns Menin? A very wealthy Brazilian individual. I was really surprised to hear that Bulas had been sold, but I guess that if someone with that much money really wants your vineyards and business they will eventually offer you a price you can’t ignore. It happened with Mourão. I wonder who...

2001 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

2001 Quinta do Vesuvio VP. ~10 hr decant. Still very youthful fruit. Has a very sweet profile compared to other surrounding vintages. Though this started to mellow and balance out about 7-8 hrs after decanting. A bit lighter in complexity compared to the surrounding 2000 and 2003 vintages. Yet still...
