2021 Quinta do Vesuvio Douro

2021 Quinta do Vesuvio Douro Mostly Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Amarela. This wine makes up only 1-2% of the total production of the Quinta. Black stone fruits, tobacco, tar, chocolate, drying tannins and wet stones. A seamless transition to a very exuberant and long finish. This gai...

2020 Comboio do Vesuvio Douro

2020 Comboio do Vesuvio The first, or “entry level”, wine of the Quinta do Vesuvio table wine trio. About 1/3 each of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional. A very aromatic floral nose. Strawberries, tar, and soft round tannins. The chalky finish is rather persistent and full of sour cher...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1986 Warres LBV. Very lovely, a bit one note but a great one. Cherry herring liquor on the tail end, a touch thin and well aged. Others have written about disjointed alcohol but I got none of that. This easily could have been mistaken for a VP---not one of the best houses--well you get the idea. Ha...

Oldest to youngest. Then circle back and do it again with what’s left in glasses.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1970 Warre's VP 1975 Graham's VP 1977 Smith Woodhouse Sadly, they didn't show so good. First time in a long time that several bottles were a bit duff. Though the 70 and 77 did show a bit better the following day. Still not up to normal par. No fear, there were many other things consumed last weekend...

Re: TFP Declare 2022 VP

Heh, when I went looking for a declaration today, I found this on the Fladgate Partnership website: Over time, The Fladgate Partnership has brought together four of the main Port houses. Taylor’s, founded in 1692, was joined by Fonseca and Croft. Math is hard. Hahaha. Maybe they just didn’t want to...

Re: TN: 2006 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional Douro

But, the 2004 did not seem ready a few years ago. 2004 was a better overall year than 2006. Though, Not as good as 2005 ended up being for Douro dry wines. But if one tastes a field blend, such as Ponte or Maria Teresa, against a TN, it’s very apparent which has better complexity and depth over tim...

Re: TN: 2006 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional Douro

I've come to the conclusion that, with some exceptions, most single varietal wines from the Douro don't make great old wines. Then again, that probably applies to most wine regions of the world as well. So you're saying that I should be opening these '05 Crasto TNs that I have? Yes, most like...

TN: 2006 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional Douro

2006 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional. Last note was ~9 yrs ago. This has become very pruney and linear with age. In 2015 I said give it a few more years. I perhaps gave it too many. Not to be too harsh, it was a nice bottle. But not what it once was. I’d say drink sooner than later if you have any...

Thanks for the update on this one. At 20 years old now, it's good to get data points on how VP's from the vintage are doing.

2007 Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port

2007 Qta d Romaneira VP. Color is a light ruby red. Red currant, pine resin, protruding spirit, and anise. Light to moderate complexity with a spirity finish. A more delicate VP that appears to be maturing at a faster than anticipated rate. Not sure if in an awkward stage or not. Will have to revisi...

Re: What have you opened this week?

We had one of these at our last Port club meeting. It was one of the really good old bottlings from 2011. Which bottlings did you guys open? Mine was a 2018 bottle that I purchased on winebid.com, for which I probably know the original buyer ;-) I still have two bottles from an earlier FTLOP arrang...
