These do have varying amounts of VA so that could very well be the issue.

1 x 1964 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port. Haven’t had that one in a very long time. Let us know how it is when you open it. Yeah, they're pretty rare. You brought one up to Seattle not too long ago, and then I opened one for my 60th birthday, but those are the last 2 that I can remember. It's low e...

Medalhas translate to medals. I don’t see a year on it so taking a guess it’s a non-vintage. Villar d Allen, if the same, was the old owner of Quinta do Noval but that predates this bottle by a large margin. And I don’t think they had anything to do with RCV. So that part stumps me. I would guess, a...

Re: Cork Lifespan

The wax and foil are what keeps the saturated corks from falling out. Ask Ferreira on that one. Hah. Truth be told, capsules were designed back in the old days when cellars were not as insect and rodent free as they are today. Was to keep said insects and rodents away from destroying the corks and ...

Re: Cork Lifespan

Some producers do re-cork their bottles every 20-30 yrs. But keep in mind these are generally meant to be sold at some point. The machines that do this are quite impressive nowadays and do more than just re-cork. Otherwise, if stored properly corks can last generations without issue. I’ve had bottle...

Re: 1994 Ferreira Vintage Port

I have often thought some Ferreira vintages (and Warre’s as well) were fully mature only to be proven wrong later. They tend to be rather sneaky about their aging profiles.

Taylor’s Releases New Tawny

Perhaps not breaking news, Taylor’s has released the 1976 Single Harvest Tawny. If you’re a ‘76 baby time to keep an eye out for it.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Seems like Small Potatoes to fake a $150 bottle. Understand what you are saying, Glenn, but an easy roll of the dice. Actually, by numbers, the most faked wines are less than $20 a bottle. No reason to think yours is a fake. But it had to come from someone who’s been there in person and was actuall...

Discovered that this was leaking when I re-arranged my fridges, so figured I'd open it. It's a very nice Port and doesn't seem at all damaged by the leaking. I'd say 92 points for this bottle.
A very good VP. I’ve never had VA issues with it.

Quite tannic on opening that softened about an hour later. Young fruit is mixed with leather, a touch of V.A. (In a good way like with Chateau Musar), quite pronounced acidity, and pencil lead. If I had to compare, it’s a cross between an old world Bordeaux and old world Douro. Not your typical homo...

Re: Portuguese Style Tawnies

The larger the vessel used to age the slower the aging process becomes. Thus it retains its youthful characteristics longer. If you use smaller vessels the aging rate increases.

That’s a relatively simple way of describing it as there are many ways to age a tawny. But hopefully it helps a little.
