You mentioned that you pre-ordered btls, is this omething that anyone can do? I don't particularly need any vintage but it is a very good service, does it mean you get a good price cause it has not gone through the hands of a dealer?

Thanks Roy and Peter, I now understand the benefits of the partnership with madeira wine guide. It is always good to get an experts opinion. In my earlier post I commented upon my lack of 'wow' factor for the terrantez, well having re-visited the bottle 2 weeks after opening, here is my TN Blandy's ...

Great years

It has been a while since I last posted, Is there a guide somewhere, here or on the net, that gives indications of the quality of the last 100 yrs or so. I have been looking at various lists which I have asked for but never have a clue what I should buy, perhaps being a 'wino' I put too much emphasi...

Excellent.

French onion soup, Turtle is not really me!

Lightly spiced asian meal, to be thought up

Ice cream and chocolate.

How does that sound?

I will let you know how it goes and our eventual menu. Many thanks for the suggestion.

Madeira Menu

I am putting together a small evening, including Terrantez, Tinta Negra Mole, a 10 yr old Sercial and one or two others. Can anyone recommend food to go with it? Do you think tapas style food, lots of finger nibbles, or perhaps something like an asian meal? Any thoughts or past experiences would be ...

 Wow, I have spent my lunch break reading these threads, I have been to Boisdale a few times and have had unbelievable evenings, sadly the events must remain unknown, I know that on some evenings they have a jazz band come and play who, when I have been , were amazing, that would be a nice fea...

Just to give my little bit seeing as I see a lot of old bottles..... My advice would be to leave them as they are, if there is a chance that spoilage may occur then yes I would get them re done, however if not I would leave them as they are. No matter what the provenance, people are always sceptical...

Diploma.......

Without bragging I thought you might like to hear that I have just passed my diploma assignment on 'The Trade bodies of Sherry, Port and Madeira'. Not only that but I passed with distinction, so I am over the moon. Big thanks has to go to all of those here who helped point the way for me and Roy tha...

I'm very touched by your kind words. Just so none of you think I'm better than I actually am, I didn't get the producers, in that respect you have to indicate whether it is mass produced, boutique, high or low quality. I've completed the wine section + champagne and sparkling so just the spirits to ...

TN: 1981 Barbeito Verdelho Vintage Madeira

On the weekend I thought I would try a bit of food matching, courtesy of the back label. We drank Barbeito 1981 Verdelho with Devilled Chicken Liver Pate. The Pate had a tiny bit of spice in it and the two combined perfectly. Everyone at the meal was blown away, some guys had never even had Madeira ...

Since Tom mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we would be trying one of these mystery bottles I have been very excited. In truth finding the 'Holy Grail' had never been on my mind. At 7pm on Thursday I collected the bottle from my office and wandered over to the Angel hotel and met Tom at the bar, ...

Just tried the Barbeito '81. Very different from other styles I have tried (limited) For me the clarity of flavours, crispness and complexity stood out. It seemed extremely tight knit, which to me, having never tasted like this before, would suggest plenty of development and harmonising ahead. I pou...

I cannot find any information about this change apart from my primary source who told me.

IVM has changed its name to

Instituto de Vinho de Bordado e do Artesenato da Madeira

Anyone know anything?

Morning Phillip Thanks for the info and recommendation. I have called and left a message, so hopefully he'll get in contact. He is selling 1978 Secrcial which is my birth year so I'd better grab a btl. An expensive, for me, hobby. I am very keen on buying a 6btl wooden case. I have started a cellar ...
