I have to admit, I've done a number of these procedures. One thing to remember in a week, they all look horrible, in a month they usually look pretty good; so don't panic.

Color: Is it "Squid Ink" as we called it on the last Harvest Tour, or just somewhat dark, medium, or just plain too light. If it don't stain the teeth something is wrong, LOL. Black as Egypt's night was how the old Port trade described this I believe. I also look for grip, another old tra...

Ferreira's Duque de Braganca was very inexpensive at the Oporto Airport.
The duty on wine, including fortifieds, is minimal. It isn't worth the time spent for the customs officials. They're more interested in the total value of overseas purchases. Go with Andy's suggestions.

Going with the rocks. I'm hoping I have internet access.
No indication when bottled. Probably at its best about 24 hours after decanting with the stopper off.
Thanks all!

TN: 1863 Blandy Malmsey Solera Madeira

Getting ready to deploy in a few days, and since I won't be able to indulge in Madeira, Port, or any other alcoholic beverage for that matter for several months; I've been trying to drink some nice wines. Today opened Blandy's 1863 Malmsey Solera. In an old 70 cl bottle. Paper label which states it ...

Roy, How humid is your cellar? 70% is considered ideal, at least in the US and the Carribean. In Britain, they like their cigars a bit drier and keep them at about 55%. Anything between these will be OK, depending on your likes. Classically, a cut apple in an enclosed enviornment was used to humidif...

Many of the gaming companies based in Las Vegas are heavily invested in Macau. The Venetian and Wynn are just two. Steve Wynn is actually planning on investing more in Macau than in Vegas.

On the Fortification Tour, we had a chance to try some of the different aguardente being evaluated at Fonseca. Very interesting and there was considerable difference between the samples.

I'll go with Taylor. Maybe I'm a masochist, but I love that Taylor backbone and grip.

Thanks for the info Peter.
My bottle has a more commercial looking front label and it doesn't have the IVM seal on it so it may have left the island a while ago. Perhaps it is from the same source as the quartet!
I'd be happy to open a bottle with you. Perhaps with Roy at one of his tastings!

Not as good as most posting here. First Port was a Sandeman Ruby. I think I was about 16. My father gave it to me. It was OK but I didn't think too highly of it. The next year he gave me some 1970 Sandeman. It was very young at the time, and I hated it. He actually has a bottle left of the original ...

Question about Henriques & Henriques Old Malvasia

I've a couple of bottles of Henriques & Henriques Malvasia. I got them at auction a couple of years ago. They've obviously been in bottle a while. There's cellar grunge, paper labels. No Madeira govenment seal. The front label is a generic Henriques & Henriques Malvasia label. The back label...

In the late 1990s I bought myself a treat: a lifetime’s supply of good cigars. Mostly Partagas Lusitania (becoming an ever-better smoke with the passage of time), though some others for variety. A great treat, a few times a month. And with west-coast malt: typically Islay, or Skye, or Oban. How muc...

I like my VP's just as they're starting to go tawny. Of course this varies with the wine and storage. I'm holding onto my 1977's a bit longer. The 70's are doing very well right now.
