Re: Do you find yourself drinking more, or less bottles of LBV?

Before we started seriously gathering VP's, LBV were our go to Ports. Tasty and inexpensive for sure. Then as we progressed and discovered colheitas and Tawnies, red and white, LBV went by the wayside. I might keep a few on hand, to cook with or a glass to share with a non port drinker, but no I don...

Re: What have you opened this week?

I can gladly report that the 1985 Fonseca VP is in it's wheelhouse and still going strong. What I found was the second day it was even better. After a 3 hour decant it was still not settled down. I had a second glass a few hours later and it was getting better and better. I have more, it will probab...

Re: Port palate migration

Interesting topic because we have migrated our Port drinking and buying. The cellar contains: 75% VP, no additions planned as at our current consumption, the VP's will outlast me. No new additions planned. 25% Wood aged Port. These Ports are now 75% of our consumption and are purchased on a regular ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Last night for me and my wife, a DR 50 year old Tawny, bottle 153/200. This stuff is magic, so viscous, so tantalizing so much MORE. The amazing thing is I've had 3 older DR tawnies that might be considered better. At this level we just enjoy it. 3 ounce pour lasted all evening.

Re: What have you opened this week?

DR White 30---yowza!!! easy 95-96 points I also opened a DR 30 white over the weekend. We were so impressed with it at the Quinta we bought a whole case. I compared it with the remaining Vista Allegre 40 white I opened last week. The DR 30, to my tastes, is the superior wine. My wife picked it blind.

Re: What have you opened this week?

So I really wanted to see how a Moscatel (40yr Alambre) compaired to a white Port. Mission accomplished upon opening a bottle of Vista Alegre 40 years white tawny Port. Our shipment from Portugal from the Port Harvest Tour 2 arrived yesterday. I had a very difficult time deciding which bottle to ope...

Re: FTLOP Buying Op in America

I opened a bottle of the 40 year old for thanksgiving and had it with some Pumpkin pie, great match. Bottled in 2017, the glass was heavily stained and the wine viscous. To me it was more like a Madeira and I enjoyed it later on with a fine cigar. However for some in our group it was just "too ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Here’s an odd one I’ve never seen or ever seen a TN on before. 1940 Sandeman VP, bottled in 1942. Couldn’t say no just out of curiosity. Come to think about it, can’t recall ever seeing a TN on any 1940 VP…tawny, yes, but not a VP Where did you find it, Andy? And if you don't mind saying, how much ...

Re: Millions slated to be invested in hotel and restaurant at ...

Having just visited Crasto, I firmly believe they care a great deal about their customers. I believe Covid hit them hard and there were certainly issues with their distributor. Give them time and they should ascend to high praise. I can also report that their 1994 LBV is wow, still very, very good. ...

Re: Big wicker bottle with plaster cap

I can only speculate, but what fun. Can anyone decode the writing on the cork? How did you obtain this port, how was it represented? It almost looks like it wasn't meant for retail but part of some Quinta's house wine, or even a reserve? It might have had a tag on it at one time or ? Pure speculatio...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Thank you very much, what a long strange trip it's been. Tonight is BBQ links and beer (Brother Thelonious) at the pool, however I'll be pouring something later with dessert, the 1965 Kopke. so far the 67 Taylor beat the 66 Kopke, so a rematch is demanded. VP's start on Friday night.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Opened a '66 Kopke Colheita tonight. Cause... why not! Pretty damn good. Tasting notes will follow. Kopke 1966, 375ml. Sounds good to me! But I have a reason. Wow, it's as good as I remember. That was Sunday/Monday. Tonight is a 1967 Taylor VOSHP This week is going to be lots of fun! I'm turning 60...

Since we are less than 30 minutes from AC this would be a great tasting for us to attend. I don't have a lot of Vesuvio, but I'm sure we can come up with something that fits. Let us know.

A movie that sadly saw very little theater time. Sing Street, set in 1985 Dublin about a boy who starts a band to impress a girl. Sweet stuff.

My shipment is on the way and due to arrive on Thursday! Ah, the glories of shipping up the West Coast. Pay for Ground, get 2-day. :-) I hope it doesn't stop overnight anywhere in the Central Valley or SF Bay. It was 104 yesterday and Thursday, when if I was expecting delivery, would be on the truc...
