Re: Big wicker bottle with plaster cap

I can only speculate, but what fun. Can anyone decode the writing on the cork? How did you obtain this port, how was it represented? It almost looks like it wasn't meant for retail but part of some Quinta's house wine, or even a reserve? It might have had a tag on it at one time or ? Pure speculatio...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Thank you very much, what a long strange trip it's been. Tonight is BBQ links and beer (Brother Thelonious) at the pool, however I'll be pouring something later with dessert, the 1965 Kopke. so far the 67 Taylor beat the 66 Kopke, so a rematch is demanded. VP's start on Friday night.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Opened a '66 Kopke Colheita tonight. Cause... why not! Pretty damn good. Tasting notes will follow. Kopke 1966, 375ml. Sounds good to me! But I have a reason. Wow, it's as good as I remember. That was Sunday/Monday. Tonight is a 1967 Taylor VOSHP This week is going to be lots of fun! I'm turning 60...

Re: Quinta do Vesuvio vertical N California

Since we are less than 30 minutes from AC this would be a great tasting for us to attend. I don't have a lot of Vesuvio, but I'm sure we can come up with something that fits. Let us know.

A movie that sadly saw very little theater time. Sing Street, set in 1985 Dublin about a boy who starts a band to impress a girl. Sweet stuff.

Re: The next great subscriber's buying opPORTunity.

My shipment is on the way and due to arrive on Thursday! Ah, the glories of shipping up the West Coast. Pay for Ground, get 2-day. :-) I hope it doesn't stop overnight anywhere in the Central Valley or SF Bay. It was 104 yesterday and Thursday, when if I was expecting delivery, would be on the truc...

Re: Father's day

I think we hit 102 yesterday with another 4-5 days to follow. I thought briefly of a White port and tonic, but decided on a Bear Republic 00 Pilsner instead. I was going to smoke some ribs, but made a Chicken Ceaser Salad instead. Sparkling Limeade was the drink of choice by then.

I would also suggest the local fabric store. I got a lifetime supply of cheese cloth for around $10, however as always, your mileage may vary.

Re: Off-Topic TNs from that Trombley character

I like your reports and enjoy learning about other sweet wines that port lovers enjoy. It would be nice to have a forum for "other sweets" but realize that this is a Port/Madeira site and isn't the focus here. However it could help drive more traffic to FTLOP which I think would be a good ...

Re: Establishing my port collection.

What you do learn from these lots however is not to keep bottles for a special occasion you haven't planned - else one day they may find themselves stuffed in an old cardboard box in the corner of a saleroom . I've probably have acquired enough junk to keep the kids busy for a while going through i...

You may be right here Glenn, however I'm thinking it would be more "collectable" when it was full rather than its current empty state :D

I received an order from Nickolls and Perks not long ago. The price was very good, the bottle arrived in perfect shape and shipping/customs was reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend them or order again, at least for shipping to the USA.

An epic negotiation by a novice, who somehow defeated the likes of Sheldon Adelson. How?
