Indie Sherry has been around for over fifteen years, apparently

This article from last year was neat. I've never seen anyone talk about anything in it.

I don't know anything about good Riesling, but I'd like to. Is it pop n pour or should one look for 2021s and save them for X many years?

I have... let me see... five bottles I'm cellaring. I try to keep stocked on cellar defenders for a reason! During pumpkin beer season, my Ports are mostly safe, anyway.

I think it'd be great.

I'm impressed. I had that for the first time this year, I don't have any left to save for fifteen years

Re: Beginner Questions

Can we update this for recommendations ten years later? My boyfriend is looking to spend about the same amount, around $300 for 3-6 bottles. He's specifically looking for sweet. He's in the DC area buying in- store unless anyone has other suggestions. We'd also check out Madeira bars in the area if ...

Re: Facebook memories

From vat, but it was fortified a few days prior. I led a Rosé Port tasting for friends and one happened to put it on Facebook Live. I tagged Roy so he could critique me and in comments explained what Rosé Port is, then double checked with him. I asked how long is Rosé aged in the vat? He answered :...

I once bought a bottle of pink Port, maybe two. Decent for cocktail mixing. That's all I'm going to say about that.
If you like mixing cocktails with liquid cotton candy. Ick!

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

Rare Wine Co. Historic Series New York Malmsey H.M. Borges 20 Year Malmsey- this is the oldest Madeira I've had and it's much more tart than I expected. Smells overwhelmingly of candied pecan and toffee. None of that is in the flavor, surprisingly. Instead there's a lot of malic acid mellowed by van...

I made the following to help the newbies in my Port Club...I found that the list of flavors helps the brain correlate the taste. Plus all you've got to do is circle or check something so a lot less writing for those disinclined. John, I've lost this file and can't seem to download it again. Would y...

Re: Port on tv

I'm watching Downton Abbey for the first time. It begins in the manor of a large estate in Yorkshire, England, in 1912. In the first episode, the Head Butler is shown decanting a bottle of wine in front of a candle, with cheese cloth over the neck of the decanter. They don't mention Port and I don't...

Re: Misconceptions- what is your favorite myth about Port?

Port is only for after the meal. Nope, various types of Port pairs very well with different foods. Port and strong cheese (or cigars) is the perfect combo. No way. Any super strong or spicy food or cigar will overwhelm the delicate nuances of most Ports, as they will with almost every other type of...

A couple members wanted to revisit this tasting from long ago. Interesting, I have almost opposite opinions of your results. Fonseca is my favorite, I think Taylor First Estate is the best [how is it so well blended and smooth!], and I won't drink Noval Black. I've been trying to get my testing gro...

Re: Presidential 2011 LBV

I poured a glass at 9am and left it on the kitchen counter and put the open bottle in the fridge. Poured a glass from that at 11, it was definitely too cold. Now, at 11:30, that glass has warmed up to a nice temperature. It's definitely better at the right temperature, surprise. The warm glass taste...

Oh, how long should I decant this? Four hours is my rule of thumb for LBVs, but I know some are better with more or with less. I don't know how to gauge offhand.
