Derek, I have been away for a few days- sorry for the late reply: The are several reasons I suggested splitting a bottle. First I don't have multiple bottles of old port from the same batches (-unfortunately). In my case I can contribute multiple bottles from 94 or 97 but will have to split somethin...

My sincerest apologies about the typo Mr. Hersh...{or is it Harsh.... ;o)}. I have used what is now referred to the Audoze method over the years, admittedly mostly for young red wines. A friend who grew up in Normandy told me that that's how his dad used to treat young Chateaunef when he grew up -so...

Decanting Vs. Slow Aeration ?
Roy: Thanks for the Hersh Method Article- I agree completely with the idea of longer decanting times. I was wondering if you have also experimented with the long slow aeration in the bottle vs. straight out decanting. (i.e. removing the cork & letting the bottle stay open upright in the cellar f...

Leacock Madeira Verdejo -TN's anyone?
I have been offered to purchase a Leacock Madeira Verdejo 1952 from a private collection. It may be called Jubilee but I haven't seen the bottle. I checked the archives for TN's. I couldn't find any TN's for this vintage though it seems that Leacock are a decent merchant. Has anyone had a chance to ...

Where are port prices heading?
It seems to me that over the past 2o years or so the price of port in general has gone down steadily. I'm not talking about bottles from the 50 or 60's but more about vintages such as the mid 80's and onwards. I the past those seemed to have increased in value steadily but now days a careful shopper...

I'm 46 years old. All the port I would like to drink has already been bottled. That is not to say that it isn't fun to try the new vintage but as far as buying strategy it seems that there is lots of port avilable for purchase from the 80's and onwards that is absolutly a bargin when compared to the...
