Re: Interstate shipping crackdown

I have ordered a bunch of wine this month, all from out of state and every one of these retailers told me that they have no issues with selling and shipping wines here to WA State. I wonder what will happen shipping from consumer to consumer? I did that last month with zero issue, to a friend on Lo...

Re: Bottle aging on Colheita's and Tawny's - good or bad?

This is interesting. I have heard that only Niepoort and Kopke will improve in bottle, but have not any own experience with either. In my cellar, however, I do have some colheitas that have spent some time in glass.

I'll take the Ballantine's off your hands, if you are interested.

Re: 1967 Quinta da Romaneira Porto Colheita

I just finished a Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port 2011, and thought it was a delightful bottle of port, even though very young.
I am sure your 1967 Colheita will be good too.

Martinez 1970, since 1979/80.
It has been in 3 different cellars. First my own up north, then the Vicars and then my own down south since 1990.

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

Barbeito Verdelho Ribeiro Real 20 YO
Cossart Gordon Verdelho Vintage 1975

Both very nice, 1975 seemed a bit more balanced. The sweetness and the acidity fused more.

Re: Churchill LBV Info

Perhaps OT, but I have a long opened bottle of Vallein-Tercinier Très Vieux Pineau des Charentes Reste des Anges 1997, and a piece of Brie that was nearly creeping off the plate.
Those two in combination was very good.

Re: a few queries on Madeira - mostly theoretical

I'm not a Maderia person, so I don't know these off the top of my head. Were they Port questions, I would know some and then I would go consult the IVDP regulations. Which leads me to this answer, the Madeira equivalent: http://www.vinhomadeira.pt/regulation-157.aspx Is the english version availabl...

Re: 1987 Niepoort Garrafeira

Having resently paid half a kings ransom for the 1977 Niepoort Garrafeira bottled in 2007, I wonder if it is improving with cellaring, or will it behave more like a tawney?
