Re: George Sandeman - April's Forum Guest Corner Host
Hello George, I love the 1945 vintage as well, I purchased 5 bottles of '45 Sandeman several years ago at auction and drank 3! Two bottles had low fills and signs of seepage but were still very good, one was excellent, and the more pristine bottles have yet to be opened. Was the 1945 Sandeman primar...

1931 Quinta Do Noval Vintage Port
The 1931 Quinta Do Noval was the worst looking of three bottles that I own, mainly because the cork showed signs of seepage and the fill was low neck. I was nervous yet optimistic about the contents of what I had always heard to be one of the greatest vintage Ports of all time. Immediately upon open...

1970 Morgan's Vintage Port
After a five hour decant time the 1970 Morgan's vintage Port had the wonderful aroma of violets, fresh fennel, and grapes. The color in the glass was similar to black plums with a hint of red. It was thinner in the mouth than it looked but very sweet and well balanced. The overwhelming taste was of g...

1970 Royal Oporto Quinta Das Carvalhas Vintage Port
The 1970 Royal Oporto Quinta Das Carvalhas was a light pinkish red color in the glass. After decanting for three hours it was thin and simple in the mouth with tastes of candy apple, pear, and sugary cherry. It was a fragile port that would not benefit from further aging. Overall it had a 20 year ta...

1938 Niepoort Garrafeira Port
The 1938 Niepoort Garrafeira was one bottle I had never seen before and probably will not see again. The label declared that the contents were “bottled in 1943 and decanted in 1977”, which makes some sense because the 1940 Niepoort Garrafeira was “bottled in 1945 and decanted in 1979”. The bottle sh...

1966 Sandeman Vintage Port
This tasting of 1966 Sandeman from a source who's storage conditions were highly questionable yielded positive results. Color: Pale, rust, and slightly orange sunset at the rim. The nose was of figs, almonds and a bit of grapefruit or blood orange with a light alcohol scent. Rather thin tasting and ...

1966 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port
This Berry Brothers & Rudd bottling of 1966 Taylor had a mild smokey nose, with a bit of clove, raisin, and later a dull maple scent. No harsh alcohol smell whatsoever . The color was mostly solid ruby with hints of purple and blue. On the palate: blackcurrant, cherries, and a hint of cantaloupe...

Re: 1948 TAYLOR Vintage Port
You do realize that only Graham's and Fonseca declared 1948 besides Taylor ... at least those are the only ones I have had and am aware of from all accounts. Few things are as much fun as having these 3 side-by-side. Morgans and Dow did too ..no? I've never had Taylor, Graham, and Fonseca at the sa...

1970 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port
The '70 Offley was very much like a Colheita in the glass. It had scents of caramel and lemon mixed with toffee on the nose. On the tongue it was like a sugary vanilla flavored flan combined with some citrus. Overall the 1970 Offley was not a bad wine but unlike a vintage Port in style. This may hav...

1970 Ramos Pinto Vintage Port
The 1970 Ramos Pinto initially smelled heavily of alcohol but had an excellent dark purple-black and ruby color in the glass. The primary tastes were surprisingly well rounded and youthful with flavors of dried fig and cherry. On the mid palate it was thick and rich with hints of spice and licorice....

1948 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port
The slightly seeping 1948 Taylor was originally purchased by me as an "unknown Port" for very little money. When I brought the bottle home I was pleased to read "1948 Taylor bottled in 1950" printed on the cork. With little decanting time the Taylor had almost no alcohol on the n...

1927 Graham's Vintage Port
I purchased the 1927 Graham knowing it had a good fill but signs of seepage through its cracked wax capsule. The first thing I noticed after opening the eighty-year-old Port was its strange smell. The scent was reminiscent of dill pickles and the color was a dark brick red and cloudy prune. It was a...

Re: Newbie Looking For Guidence
With $100 you should be able to buy two different 1985 vintage Ports.. one to drink and one to save. You could probably find an '85 Dow, Warre, Ferreira, Ramos Pinto, Sandeman, or maybe Fonseca or Graham if you are lucky. I would absolutely but two Vintages and take $16 to Costco if you want a Tawny...

I've had some decent '75's ..the Grahams is okay, the Taylor was not so good, the Fonseca okay but the Ferreira was EXCELLENT!

Roy we need to add the "Cigar and Pipe" section to the forum as there is a much better group of people here than most of the cigar boards!
