Re: Vertically Speaking - historic Cockburn's Tasting & Dinner

Is this correct that the "1895" Cockburn was in fact a 1927 Taylor?

Re: Why is there no Vintage Niepoort available anywhere?

I have never seen much for sale anywhere especially pre 1990's vintage..can't figure out why there is so little?? How small is 30,000 compared to other producers?

Why is there no Vintage Niepoort available anywhere?

Low production? Or a distribution problem?

1800's TASTING!

I'm posting a separate thread for this... Alex and I have been talking about doing this for some time but very few people have pre 1900's bottles of Port in their collections so it will be difficult. The tasting we would like to arrange would be a "nineteenth century extravaganza" in which...

Re: TRYING TO PLAN A MASSIVE VERTICAL IN FEB.

Glenn, Who said anything about doing this over two days. 2 bottles per person in one night. If Fonseca, I'd put up a 1934 in pristine condition and a 1970. However, Sean ... are you EVER going to put that article together that you've promised for the past six months? I'd love to publish it fo...

Re: #17 What is your favorite vintage of Ferreira VP?

I can't ever find Ferreira, the only times I have ever seen any for sale I purchased everything I could. The 1963, 1970, and 1977's are impossible to find and the older ones only show up for sale every once in a while!
I guess my favorite is the 1975.

Trying To Plan A Massive Vertical In Feb.

I've been talking with a few fellow Port enthusiasts about perhaps having another giant vertical in Boston this February. My preference is to do Graham or Fonseca and not go into the 80's. Which would mean attendees would have to supply one pre-1950's bottle and one post 1950's bottle. Either vertic...

Re: Taylor vs. Fonseca - What do you prefer

For me the answer is Fonseca..The 1948 and 1945 Taylor's are EXCELLENT but the 1948 Fonseca is better. I think the '63 Fonseca is a hair better than the '63 Taylor, the '66 Fonseca as well. Without a doubt the 1970 Fonseca destroys the '70 Taylor! The '77's are good from both houses..but the 1980 Ta...

Of course ..most of the world markets are in the hopper and will probably continue to be for the next few years!
I could buy a '63 Fonseca instead of driving my car for 4 hours!

Re: Port discoveries -

I think Fred and I might share this one : - The look on are faces when we looked at Sean's death row . :( The next discovery is more personal in nature : - It was interesting to see that the porcelain god at Sean's place accepted not only two 1963 VP's but a 1950 VP as well . :winebath: This was al...

Re: What is your view of the "longevity" of 1977 Vintage Ports?

I think both the Taylor and Fonseca are not ready to drink yet and are holding up very well. I would be surprised if these don't go the "long haul". It will be interesting to see how these open up in the next 10 years and whether or not they will be equal to or better than the '66's or 197...

I would like to add Andy V. has a nice lemon tree in his backyard which yields some top quality lemons that when added to gallons of water aid remarkably well in curing a hangover.

1970 Sandeman Vintage Port

The 1970 Sandeman had strong fruit scents and almost no alcohol on the nose. It had a fairly thin consistency and was a light pink and red ruby color in the glass. It was very sweet and refreshing with tons of strawberry, raspberry, prune, and fig in the mouth. It is drinking at it's zenith now and ...

1966 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

The 1966 Taylor was a beautiful purple, grape and ruby color in the glass. To the nose were hints of spice, berry, and alcohol. The '66 tasted peppery initially but ended with notes of golden raisin, raspberry, and cranberry. This was an excellent representative bottle of the '66 Taylor vintage, it'...
