Re: If you were going to write a Port book ...
For me there are two interresting but seperate types of books in that region. The first deals as you said with more or less facts/opinions/ratings only. It is well organized needs a logical structure and is ideally a pocketbook with lots of ratings and advice about different regions, brands and sing...

Re: If you were going to write a Port book ...
I like the Idea from the Main PAge to combine some normal word including PORT with another meaning... Thus I'd go for something licke A PORTrait - why PORT is not just another wine. or something along the lines of . P owerful . O ..... . . R ..... . . . T ..... my english is just not good enough to ...

Re: Any information on Niepoort Quinta do Passadouro 1997?
@UncleTom: I stand at more or less exactly the same problem. I got the 24 Bottles pack after you and now also have to find the best shipping method and arrange for shipment. Still I am not sure if it is cheaper to send it to Germany and pay no Taxes at the border, or to ship to Switzerland and live ...

Any information on Niepoort Quinta do Passadouro 1997?
Hi everybody,
I was wondering if any of you already got a hand on a glass of Niepoort Quinta do Passadouro 1997 and could tell me anything about it.
What were your impressions, how did you decant it and are your thoughts concerning it's future?
Thanks in advance, Johannes

Re: Pushmepullyou
Hi everyone, the reactivity of Argon and Nitrogen is simmilarly low (more or less nothing will do anything with those two at room temperature). The most likely resaon when replacing Oxygen in bottles to use Argon is the density. Unlike Nitrogen, Argon is heavier than the surrounding air and can thus...

I usually just rinse the decanter and additionally use my metal balls to clean it like these here.
As my water is very limy? (a lot of carbonates) I sometimes have to clean it out using some vinegar essence.
One of these days I have to pick up some water purifier :).

You could ask that guy what he thinks that these nice white paint marks, that you find on many Port bottles are good for then ;) I aslo strongly believe that Port should be lying down, therefor when I see some Port standing in a shelve I also sometimes ask how long it has been there before I buy, ju...

Hmm okay, thanks at first. I'm quite astonished about that price because wine searcher only shows it at more than the shop i found it. About the taste - I'll know more and let you know as soon as I tried it. With fully mature du you just mean that it won't improve anymore or would you drink taht up ...

Hi everyone, after 6 different plates on New Years eve (luckily the friend of my sister is a proffessional chef) we had only very little room left and went for the Grahams 2001 LBV i picked up in the duty free shop. It was all right, a little much alcohol in the beginning but it faded away after sev...

Taylor Terra Feita 1982 - what can you tell me?
Hi everybody, I just bought a bottle of Taylor Terra Feita 1982. I decided to buy a bottle of it first before going for a whole case. Now for the questions - I thougt I'd open the bottle sometimes soon. How much decanting time yould you take? About 6 hours? Or even more? Did anyone already taste it ...

Sorry if I disagree on that point. I think that drinking port the 'correct' way - meaning in a proper glass properly temperated ... is a very nice thing, but there are certain tastes that you cant get unless you mix one ingredient with the other. To explain I want to show an example from another spi...

I'm just looking into that exact question and found some available Martinez 1994 which I could get for about 35€ (equals 25 Pounds or 50$). Is the price fair? And is that port worth being picked up or should I even try to get some more to cellar them (which i can't do a lot at the moment). The alter...

I dont really know what the second one looks like, but usually people here use Port Glasses like the one from Riedel or Spiegelau or the Official ones you already mentioned. If you can get your hand on some of the IVDP Glasses (Officials) then I think they are a good way to go. What concerns the oxi...

I just tripped over a source for the IVDP Glasses in Germany - so probably interresting for people from central Europe for those who have no other chance of getting their hands on them. http://www.lusitaniagourmet.de/8.html Price is roughly 30€ / 6 pack + pp. I didn't ask or buy there, but if someon...
