1960 Krohn Colheita

60 Krohn Colheita - 90 points
Nose - Dark, toffee, spicy, molasses
Once again, this 60 showed as the spiciest. Very dark in flavor with molasses

1961 Krohn Colheita

61 Krohn Colheita -95 points I have had different results depending on the source ranging from 88 points to a solid 95 - this batch is a solid 95 points! Nice is dark chocolate, treacle, and molasses The plate is just so big and rich with molasses notes. Love this! This tasting note is one of severa...

1966 Krohn Colheita

66 Krohn Colheita - 89 points
Clearly the lightest by far
The nose and palate were very similar - very fresh with lots of toffee but not the depth nor complexity of the others

1958 Krohn Colheita

58 Krohn Colheita - 92 points
Nose - Charcoal and fruit. For some reason my notes say "sideburns."
On the palate rich and lush, pretty much everything I want from a wine

Re: Weise and Krohn Colheta 58,60,61,66

Hi David,

The 61 is my favorite as well and is my go to birthyear wine (although we open a few 61 Barolos too).
Very glad to have a few left!

Weise and Krohn Colheta 58,60,61,66

Brief notes as it was the 3rd flight after a Krug and old Italian flight - had these all multiple times with consistent results. Basically these were all wonderful 58 Krohn Colheita - 92 points Nose - Charcoal and fruit. For some reason my notes say "sideburns." On the palate rich and lush...

Re: Port Friends in the Boston Area

I'm an hour north in Durham NH, an enormous Port fan, and often drive to Boston for wine events. Haven't been very active here lately other than some lurking though! And of course drinking. I live near sheep, goats, cows, and Llamas, but rarely bring them to tastings :) Although that said, I cooked ...

2003 Croft Vintage Port

Croft - 93 points - on the nose, dark figs, graphite and a sense of dark fruits hidden under the surface morphing to dark fruits after a day, with a sense of very fine tannins Mouthfilling and mouth smaking. Big & long, sweet and round. Not especially well balanced for the first day, but develop...

2003 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

Taylor - 97 points Not much on the nose. Some talc, a little fig. Some graphite and red and black fruits after a day, but the least expressive nose. Big and beautiful on the palate from opening. Big red fruits. It's all balance and elegance. Classic Taylor - understated yet racy. Awesome! This tasti...

2003 Fonseca Vintage Port

Fonseca - 95 points A "sense of cool" on the nose, similar to the hints of menthol on the Croft's palate. Rich fruit, but barely perceptible for the first day. After 24 hours a medical note others have described as "cocaine" - like a cherry liqueur to me and not objectionable at ...

2003 Delaforce Vintage Port

Delaforce - 89 points Nose - deep red fruits, graphite, figs and dates. After 24 hours more fig showing. The lightest tasting of the group. Long and dark/dried fruits. "Red Wine" taste, in addition to tasting like Port. Good mouthfeel. Much better on day 3 (48 hours) and perhaps deserving ...

1983 Fonseca Vintage Port

I think the 80 is the worst Fonseca ever! I like the 83 and think you had an off bottle. I've had three bottles in the past couple of years. Consistently rated 90-92 points. Here is my first (and only extensive) TN Ted Fonseca 83 10 may 2004 Purchased recently from Premier Cru, and allowed to rest f...

Re: What are the 3 best Ports you've had in 2008

OK, here goes: Weise and Krohn 1961 Colheita. Just love this wine. I have found some of theese Colheitas to vary widely depending on their disgorgement date, for example the 66 Krohn Colheita which varies from 87 points (2003 bottling) to low/mid 90s, earlier bottlings. Can't tell you when it was bo...

This is pretty dang early -- we've got a few days left!
A couple of Colheitas will probably be making my list . . . after 2008 is over.

Thanks Roy,

I hope to try another bottle when my nose is firing on all cylinders, and maybe even have one in reserve should you ever visit.
Will look later this week -- hopefully another bottle or two is available.

1952 Delaforce Colheita Port

Delaforce Coheita 1952, Dec 7 2008 -- 93+ My nose was slightly stuffed, hence the "93+" -- it's nose may have been much better than I thought. This DID improve with time, and deserved more than the mere hour from opening to finishing! Color: rich amber/dark brown Nose: Brazil nuts, molasse...

Re: Does the 1975 vintage deserve more respect than it receives?

Hi Derek, I was only in London for a long weekend, eating and drinking with relatives -- next time for sure! The restaurant is Le Bouchon Breton in the Old Spitalfields Market (E1 6EW if that helps). Been open about 4 months, and it was great, My brother in law Steve is a chef there, so no doubt we ...
