Re: What is the shelf life for Commandaria?
Is this fortified? I see different versions. I'm not sure, which is why I posted originally. The KEO looks, smells, and tastes fortified, and I've kept two bottles open for at least a week without any or much discernible change. But 15% seems on the lower side to me, in comparison to port and Madei...

Re: What is the shelf life for Commandaria?
If I had any idea, I would ask if you mean before or after opening the bottle. But I don't know either way. Interesting stuff. I may have to look this one up in one of my wine encyclopedias. For now, I just read this: https://www.wine-searcher.com/regions-commandaria Sounds like it will last a good...

What is the shelf life for Commandaria?
I bought a bottle of KEO St. John Commandaria tonight. Very nice wine for $30. The alcohol level is 15%.
Does this wine have spirits added to it and what is the shelf life of the wine in the fridge? Thanks in advance!

Re: Does port appear in "The Eagle Has Landed"?
It could be several things, but the bottle colour, bottle shape, glass shape and the colour in the glass are all consistent with a bottle of Calvados I once owned. The bottle itself though looks out of period with regard to the film however.. https://www.oldliquors.com/calvados-1900-danflou-j-2367 ...

Re: Does port appear in "The Eagle Has Landed"?
Don't remember those scenes, but snifters were popular as Port glasses a few decades ago. They were an improvement on those tiny but heavy conical traditional glasses. Not real great however, and better alternatives have since developed. Interesting. Then port or some other fortified wine would mak...

Does port appear in "The Eagle Has Landed"?
Growing up, this was one of my favorite movies. Now it's available on Amazon Instant Video. About 7 minutes, 45 seconds into the movie, Robert Duvall has a half-empty bottle and what looks like a cognac snifter with a brown liquid (probably food coloring or syrup). The bottle is dark green, has a lo...

Re: Madeira and Beef
I tried RWC Charleston Sercial last night with steak and while the wine made a good sauce, something was missing on the drinking front. A bit too dry and tangy. I'm thinking Bual or Terrantez might be best for me, and if those are too rich, I can try Verdelho. The journey is half the fun [cheers.gif]

Madeira and Beef
Which Madeiras would you pair with various cuts of beef? I've done some quick reading and it appears that Sercial or Bual goes best with steak, especially skirt steak.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Morning Andy and Roy! I spend a lot of time in the eastern side of RI, which definitely has strong Lusophone influences. There's a lot of mainland Portuguese, Azorians, Cape Verdeans, and Brazilians in eastern RI and SE Mass. This does impact package stores, because they sell things like cachaça, Do...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Hello everyone! My name is Craig, and I'm from Rhode Island (USA). I'm a law student. I started exploring wine earlier this year. Port stood out to me from other wines because of the history involved. Also, the "A Year in Port" documentary lays everything out in a fascinating, stunning, an...
