Re: How long to decant -94 Graham for instance

Totally agree with Andy, the one thing I’ll add is that if you have a lot of 375mls, they often mature more rapidly than their full size (or jumbo size) cousins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'm guessing I'm about 80% 375s. Mostly purchased those for two reasons. First, hoping, to drink them ...

How long to decant -94 Graham for instance

I stood a 94 Grahams 375 up in my cellar for a few hours. Wife got some cheese and such and off we go to enjoy, and I think, "hey, this probably needs to be decanted for a while." I tried some immediately after decanting, and it was good, but since we didn't want to wait I used the iFavine...

Re: How long do Tawney's last in the bottle?

I've bought a few of them when I've happened across a discount. The quality is inconsistent. Some are excellent, while others are 'merely' very nice. Agreed though that they need to be spectacular at that price point. My last purchase was the recent 1961 release which is quite excellent. A friend j...

Re: How long do Tawney's last in the bottle?

Are some of the other more recent releases, the 50 year old single harvests they are releasing each year, from what they acquired or Taylor's proper? I was considering buying a couple, but the reviews, including the FLOP tasting notes seems so/so.

Re: How long do Tawney's last in the bottle?

Thanks guys. I'm going to hit that 30 year in the very near future. Until I did the cellar cleanup this weekend, completely forgot I had it. Either my wife or mother in law bought it for me a few years back I think. It was mixed in with my VPs. As to Taylor's Tawney's. I know I'm a noob to anything ...

How long do Tawney's last in the bottle?

I'm curious how long a Tawney lasts in the bottle. I was doing some cellar re-arranging this morning, and realized I had a bottle of 2013 Taylor 30 Year Tawney that I had never labeled and had lost sight of. Have I blown it and this should have been drunk 4 or 5 years ago? To be honest, until recent...

Re: 1896 Taylor's Single Harvest Tawny is coming

Also, as aged Tawney's vs. vintage, what's the drinking window once an old port like this is opened? I dunno, maybe a week? I can't imagine a bottle like that lasting more than a few days in my house. But more seriously, Andy answered your first two questions. The answer to this one varies ba...

Re: Drink vintage young or leave alone and drink Tawney and LBV

Thanks for the replies and advice. I am a subscriber and do check out the newsletter. I've been torn about how much longer I should buy young ports, but had been looking to buy some 2017 and probably will. I'm in my early 50's and figure if the target is 20-30+ years of aging, that it might not make...

Re: 1896 Taylor's Single Harvest Tawny is coming

Has this been, or is this being, released in the US? My cousin had bought a couple bottles of the 1863 and he likely would want to get some of this. Out of curiosity, how are these old ones stored? Since these are "aged tawney" rather than vintage port, are they kept in barrels this whole ...

Re: Why is one classic vintage hold and another classic vintage drink/hold?

Glenn, Thanks for explanation. I was wondering if new winemaking techniques were part of it. I think I'm going to try some of my 2011 and 2016 bottles, which I have a lot of and I've been holding off trying. If you have multiple bottles of the same Port, trying one now also gives you the opportunit...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi Everyone, I guess I should introduce myself. I've been subscribed to the newsletter and such for several years, but didn't post for the first time until a few days ago. I've been a wine and port drinker for a couple decades. Initially, I would simply drink Tawney port, but then started to sometim...

Why is one classic vintage hold and another classic vintage drink/hold?

After this questions, I'll give the 20 questions a rest for a while, as you guys have been very patient answering my noobish questions. I'm curious about when I look at the FTLOP vintage charts how some classic vintages (1994, 2000, 2003) are listed as hold, and there are multiple older excellent vi...

Glenn, thanks for the advice (both threads), and good to know that Port is hardier and less affected by questionable provenance.

Re: Reliable online shops for vintage port

Most places ship to MO, and a lot to AR (but it's far more limited). I've received shipments from Benchmark, Chamber Street, several wine clubs, wine.com and others to AR or MO. So, generally speaking, I don't think shipping restrictions are going to be an issue. My question is more about reliable s...

I'm in Arkansas, but receive shipments in MO via Domaine.

Reliable online shops for vintage port

I'm a couple hours away from the nearest shops and their selection is normally limited. Are there any reliable places to buy vintage port online, where I can feel confident that if it's a 2011 or 2003, etc., that it's been stored properly. I'm not necessarily looking for the best bargain, just relia...

Re: What is the BEST Port you have consumed in 2020

The only remarkable port I drank was sharing a bottle of 1863 Taylor Fladgate amongst three of us one night. Unlike any port I had tasted. Oh! That is an EPIC wine! Wow!!! [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif] My cousin had bought a bottle and they drank it on a trip that I had to cancel at the la...

Drink vintage young or leave alone and drink Tawney and LBV

I'm still pretty new to collecting port. Here's rough numbers of what I have by vintage. 2003 - 33 2007 - 26 2009 - 36 2011 - 123 2016 - 161 That's what I have in cellar tracker, but I know I have some that I have stacked up that I haven't put in cellar tracker yet. I'm obviously much heavier on mor...
