Could someone please explain what you look for when drinking a glass of vintage Port? I see all of the tasting notes on the site but am not sure how to do that. Also, how do you then guess what the Port is when it is passed around the table in a paper bag?

Re: What age is too old for Port?
On a bigger picture, one of the many reasons I'm a FTLOPper is to know WHEN all these different Ports are (1) ready to drink and (2) at peak.

Re: Avoid the Trap
Haven't bought any vp's since 2005 .
Mostly lbv and tawny .
2 reasons : I'm 55 and the SAQ'S outdated marketing that artificially inflates the prices in the Québec market

Roy , in your article "the tenets of tawny" you talked with Peter Symmington.
His grand-father was blending tawnys in the 19th century
I guess this doesn't really solve the original question

You're right
You can only irrigate the vines up to the 5th year
Then you need permission from the IDVP

Re: Beneficio Simplified
Removing or restructuring any long in the tooth economic system (the SAQ and Nafta comme to mind) ain't gonna be easy .Since both the SAQ and the Beneficio were instituted both pre '50 , both need to be modernized to better reflect today's reality
