Re: Two bottlings of 1977 Fonseca's VP

I will share the full selo once I get home, but I wonder how it is possible to have a later release of a VP. Was it bottled (in 1979) and was stored w/o labels? And label were added later when the port was sold to Kobrand?

1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

Decanted for about 2 hours before the first taste and consumed it over 3 days or so. It was what I would call - a well aged vintage port! It definitely showed age but all that was present in the youth was still evident. Almost sparkling, a deeper medium ruby color with a very thin rim, or almost no ...

#2 with a selo over the foil, no 'Finest' in the name, and no importer label. Haven't tried #2 yet, but #1 was excellent.

Two bottlings of 1977 Fonseca's VP

I found two different bottling of 1977 Fonseca's VP and I wondered if there was any difference in them besides the labeling. #1 with a selo under the foil, label saying "Fonseca's Finest 1977 Vintage Port", and with an importer label for "The Stacole Co.": ... PXL_20221223_070712...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Absolutely fantastic, I will share a note later. I got 2 different lots at a recent auction and planning to compare them. Strangely but these two bottlings seem to be different - one with a selo under the foil and is called Fonseca's Finest 1977 Vintage Port and the other one with a selo over the fo...

1990 Graham Porto Centenary Malvedos

The bottle I opened had slight signs of seepage, and the cork was soaking wet, though the level was still at least bottle neck. An hour of decanting was not enough to have all the sediment to settle but it was clear enough when I pored it in the glass. Aromas of ripe (or maybe even over-ripe) raspbe...

Izidro Goncalves 'Z' Malvasia

Got a hold of a few Izidro NVs. Will probably try the 'Q' next.

No problem.

I was reading this wonderful article this morning - https://www.fortheloveofport.com/the-id ... guarantee/ - and the follow up comments, and wondered if there was a similar write up on madeira seals.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Sandeman Reserve Ruby Was thinking of giving one away but decided to try one first and good thing I did. First port I've had with an agglomerate cork T-stopper, not the best look for a gift. The Croft used a good, smooth cork on the T-stopper. The Port itself was decent, with mouth-puckering tannin...

I love the Pro reviews feature on CellarTracker - I connected a few I pay for including "For the love of port" one! Thank you, all! Great app experience overall - web access is feature rich and powerful, mobile app (I use Android) is great as well though a bit clunky for more advanced or c...

Good point on "http" vs. "https", which refers to the protocol to be used when accessing services running on a host reachable by a certain domain name, and which has nothing to do with the domain name registration or ownership. Domain name, in this case ''ivdp" is certainly ...

Re: High-end vintage madeira collection in Atlanta for sale

1870 Adegas de Torreao Terrantez was not sold in auctions since 2014 (at least I couldn't find it), and the last sold price was about $1,300 (Christies). There were more other 1870 terrantez sold recently, and the prices vary greatly - for example, Acker sold 1870 Joao Romao Teixeira Campanario Terr...

NV Agri-Roncão Porto DR - 40 Year Old Tawny

Tasted a 2021 bottling. Dried apricots, caramel, and citrus notes with a 'singing' acidity. Love it! 95 pts.

Re: What does this paper seal say

I was wondering about the same thing after I got one of these off. I think the first row refers to the law 75/79 passed in April of 1979 (https://dre.tretas.org/dre/210087/decreto-lei-75-79-de-6-de-abril), which could help with dating the bottling year. Is it a selo from one of Justino's bottles pur...

Re: Two bottlings of H&H 1954 Malmsey

Thank you, Michael and Eric. That's what I was wondering about if a bottle with a bottling year passed the IVM 'era' could still have an IVM selo.
