1994 Smith Woodhouse VP

375ml. Cork easily extracted and in perfect condition. Sipped immediately upon pouring into the decanter and could tell this was going to be an excellent, elegant port. After four hours of decanting I tasted for real. I struggle with nosing/describing aromas - but this was a real pleasure. Very frui...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

Wine Enthusiast gave me a great deal on an "outlet" EuroCave Premiere S. Their flat-rate shipping is expensive, but my overall cost was still less than the regular retail price (and that's including the 4 pack of replacement filters for the unit).

Storage crisis averted haha.

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

I'm a little leery about long term storage in my basement...I've been tracking the temp and humidity for three weeks now and there's a pretty big temperature fluctuation throughout the day (it's been as much as 9 degrees - 61 degrees low and 70 degrees high). There's always at least a 6 degree varia...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

Finally getting a chance to dig into the fabulous Buying Op that Roy put together. I’m a total Madeira novice and I love both of these. Madeira reminds me a lot of sherry, which I also love.

Re: 1991 Grahams VP

Was it recorked? The Syms, like some others, now recork bottles after X number of years in their storage. So later releases will have new ones. You know, that might be the case. I have never come across a cork like this before. Now I wish I'd saved it. It had the correct corresponding vintage on it.

1991 Grahams VP

Easiest, most pristine cork I’ve ever pulled from a vintage port. The Durand was overkill. Decanted 4+ hours before tasting. Dark red color. Very deep, rich cherry/fruity palette that I really loved. Drank over two days. 92 points.

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

Thanks everyone for these great insights. Re: off-site storage...I checked and the closest to me has a $68 per month special for up-to three cases of wine. Other options begin at over $80 per month. Re: wine fridges...If I go this route I will definitely go EuroCave since that seems like the "b...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

I used to make good use of CellarTracker, but that fell by the wayside and so is no longer accurate for me. I have three wine fridges in our office, each of which in theory holds ~180 bottles. (Due to the presence of magnums none of them quite reach that number.) They used to be organized - long-te...
