Re: What have you opened this week?

Sandeman Reserve Ruby Was thinking of giving one away but decided to try one first and good thing I did. First port I've had with an agglomerate cork T-stopper, not the best look for a gift. The Croft used a good, smooth cork on the T-stopper. The Port itself was decent, with mouth-puckering tannins...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Croft Reserve Ruby

Having this Port with cheese before bed, it's lovely. Enticing aroma, it does have a strong kick but is otherwise scrumptious with bright, fresh fruit.

edit: Kick wore off next day, its quite pleasant.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

What's "owbox"? Original wooden box. Not a case, but a wooden box with a plastic sliding window for a single bottle. Picked up that B. de Vilar at the Seabra that has a liquor store attached to it. That's also where I found the Pacheca LBV which I think is fairly rare around here. I went ...

Re: High-end vintage madeira collection in Atlanta for sale

I would just post it to a reputable auction asap and just check with them the reserve price beforehand.

Madeira overall seems to fetch unreasonable amounts of money, best to do it before the recession gets worse next year and there is also strong holiday buying the next few weeks.

Event: 2000 Ferreira, Rozes, Warre's VP Horizontal

Tasted partly blind as I knew which one was the Rozes by the color. Served with full cheese spread, decanted 6 hours. 2000 Ferreira VP Balanced and with delicious, still-fresh dark berry fruits. Tannins, acid and flavor are simply just right. On the darker flavor side and mellow. It should hold but ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

2011 Cambridge LBV (by JH Andresen) It's good, although fairly simple. Clean, dry, and not particularly hot. Still mouth puckering with spicy but thin tannins, despite approaching a fairly mature level. Am also doing a horizontal of the 2000 Warre's, Ferreira, and Rozes VPs on the 17th for a birthda...

Re: Vintages... Best?

Decades don't matter much by themselves, the vintage and producer matter. For example, people will tell you that 90s Niepoort bottlings tend to have VA issues so its probably best to avoid them. Others can chime in on the quality but from the perspective of pricing alone, it is not really correlated...

Re: Let's talk Auction Prices!

WineBid added a boatload of VPs this week. The 1970s Ports seem overpriced to me but there is also rare stuff at interesting prices like, 1965 Guimaraens for $115 1960 Cockburn $105 1963 Croft $140 1937 Noval $435, Old LBVs - 64 Dow, 75 Noval, and 78 Taylor. I really don't know what these are worth ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Pop n' poured the Conceito by Barbeito White Port last night and left it in the fridge overnight. My first white Port ever I think. My initial impression yesterday was that I like white wine better because the alcohol was more pronounced relative to rubies. Not sure what is an appropriate decant tim...

Re: Let's talk Auction Prices!

For EU folks: A German auction has a few rare ports going on the block tomorrow (28th): 1966 Niepoort Colheita €120 1940 Royal Oporto Colheita (b. 1992 looks like) €160 1934 Burmester "Late Bottled" €240 (I didn't know they had LBVs back then?!) 1920 Burmester Reserve Ruby/orColheita €240 ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

That was at Little brothers in Flemington. The only bottle I bought there, they didn't have too many rare LBVs. But there should be 7 2011 Pocas left: https://www.littlebroswine.com/wines/-Pocas-Lbv-2011-2011-w8541528lm They had a good selection of tawnies and Feuerheerd which surprised me as those ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

It was awesome meeting John. Was not expecting the 1994 Warre's VP half, thank you again John. Picked up some great deals in three Jersey stores afterwards, Little Bros, NJWineseller GreenBrook, & Bottle Republic. I dug on wine-searcher for them and there is really a bonanza of ports in the regi...

Re: What have you opened this week?

2016 Quinta de la Rosa LBV Tech sheet says its "Lightly Filtered" but it still leaves a thin deposit. Unusually, it comes in a clear glass Colheita-type 0.5L bottle with T-stopper. Not too complex or sweet, and quite hot, but this is mighty enjoyable. Not really for aging, a great little n...

Yes the videos are all about trying the upstate NY Taylor on video, and exclaiming "That's liquor!" and variations of that. They have been spreading for the past month to two. This is the page where I got the 1.6B number from: https://www.tiktok.com/discover/Taylor-port-wine?lang=en For th...

Apparently Taylor (the American one) has 1.6B views on TikTok

What's are the best '82s you have enjoyed? (Can be a Colheita too I suppose)

My brother is from '82 and I'd like to be on a lookout for a good bottle at auction. And please don't say Noval Nacional. :-)

Re: Let's talk Auction Prices!

As I posted, the buyer's premium is included so there are no additional fees. Only a 8% state sales tax on top of those numbers, for the "out the door price" if you are going to pick up the lots. I assume domestic shipping would be another $5-8 per bottle if you buy a case. The prices are ...
