2000 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port

I did taste the Taylors 2000 LBV after a '77 Taylors so it's a little unfair to write this tasting note. Stewing strawberries and white chocolate on the nose and a bit of menthol. Palate is a little bit simple. It’s dusty, but has a decent sweetness with light inexpensive jam flavour. Found the fini...

I'm a manager of a shop that won Best Independent Portuguese Wine Merchant for 2006, so I'll suggest a few different wines to those already mentioned... Casa de Saima Tinto from the Bairrada is great stuff and ages so well. The current vintage is 2004, and I'm on my last few bottles of 2001 which is...

Ferreira

Time for an admission of guilt - I have never tried a Ferreira port. I do however, want to! So what should I try and where can I buy it in the UK?

Secondly, I've just started stocking O'Hanlon's Port Stout - anyone had it?

Hows about

"Like Port, I'm aging well"

There could be plural versions (for banners etc at trade shows)

"Like Port, we age well"

One thing we have to recognize, 1970 and 1971 in Bordeaux are both poor year, 2000 bordeaux are mostly closed right now! On two of the three, I agree! 1971 was a bad year and 2000 are closed, but 1970 was certainly not a poor year in Bordeaux! OK, it was no 1961, but it was the best of the 1970's b...

Oh what the hell, I'll go with the Graham's 2000 and then at least we can all dehydrate together!

Derek, if that's the case, I'll share the Graham's 2000 I chose first with everyone, despite it being WAY too young. Then, with the stealthy case of mineral water I had brought with me and then hidden, I would wait until everyone had died of dehydration (because alcohol dehydrates you, so nobody wou...

Hi Jeff I'd agree that Warres are a good one as they are a big house without having big prices. If you like Fonseca, give their Guimeraens a shot. They age pretty well, and you can pick up the 1987 for not a lot of money and they would last a decade pretty easily. Depending on your budget, you can g...

Apologies Roy! Let me change my previous post! To drink now, Niepoort LBV 1999! To keep, for me it has to be Grahams 2000. If I'm still around then, I have every intention to drink one in it's 50th birthday!

If it has to be from '97-'04, the only port that has really surprised as to how good it was there and then was 1999 Niepoort LBV! Everything else is infanticide!

While it's not a port in any way, shape or form, Queen Victoria apparently made her own fortified wine by mixing claret and Royal Lochnagar whisky. I'm assuming that it would have been decent claret so if anyone fancies trying Queen Vic's cocktail do let me know what it is like...

I've put all my wine in my friend's cellar (my apartment would ruin them!) so I only have access to it three or four times each year! Having my wine far away from where I live means that I actually get to keep a cellar and not drink it all!

Thanks for the advice, but I should let everyone know that I actually am a manager of a wine and whisky shop, that has a wonderous array of ports, wines and whiskies (a product range of about 8000 items), and I have an obscene cellar of fine wines and ports that nobody of my age (and meagre salary) ...

Michael, apologies for any offence caused. It was not intended. I've had many many great german foods in my life, indeed I worked in a store that specialised in german products, unfortunately though the stuf they sell in this particular shop is very dubious. There was absolutely no offense meant tow...

Paul I think the only difference is the fancy wooden box it comes in and the label which (I think) says something about the Millenium. A lot of wine producers did "Millenium Bottlings", particularly in large format, as a marketing ploy (am I too cynical???!) to get people to buy their prod...

The worst port in the world....

I needed milk on sunday and I walked to my nearest open shop (called Lidl - think of a cheap Wal-Mart that mainly sells rubbish German products that they have imported en masse to the UK and are selling off at a very low price) and whilst walking past the booze I noticed a rather horrid looking Port...

I was speaking to a rep today about this exact thing! Ten years ago, his company used to do (approx) £4million p.a. with the UK en primeur Bordeaux market, and now they do less than £1million. However, his sales to China, Japan and Singapore are now £8million p.a. In my humble view, the far eastern ...
