Help me select a 2017 Vintage to lay down for my son's 21st.

It's been a long time since I have perused this forum but the time has come for a return. My firstborn arrived in 2017 and I have been thinking for a while now about laying down a bottle for when he turns 21 (And maybe a second for his 40th+?) Luckily it seems that good birth year produced some exce...

Re: The Next Great "Subscriber's Only" Buyer's Op

Wait, how do I place an order. I thought we were going to get an email with instructions or something?

2004 Quinta do Crasto LBV Port -- Unfiltered

I've been drinking this over the last two days and really like it a lot. Although the bottle says "Unfiltered" I got next to nothing in my filter when decanting. It is quite a good LBV. I notice a lot of "grittyness" which I take to be the tannis. The spirit was not overpowering ...

Re: Realistic Ageing? 1850/1880 colheita's

Thanks for the reply Roy. I really had no idea that a wine could age well for that long. I knew that many VP's take 50, 60 or 70 years to be mature but I had no idea that they could go 200 years!

Re: 20 Year Old Tawny Port by Sandeman

Thanks for the suggestion Michael. I'll have to keep my eye out for that. Just thought I would put an update in. Today here in MN its about 90F with 70% humidity. I put the last quarter of the bottle in the fridge last night so I poured myself a chilled glass on this crazy sticky day. It absolutely ...

Re: 20 Year Old Tawny Port by Sandeman

Well this 20yr for me was a splurge so regrettably I probably won't be trying another for a while. I've been slowly sipping on this bottle through the day and it continues to impress me. I'll have to look around for some other 20yr stuff and see if I can find a deal (hard to come by in MN). I really...

20 Year Old Tawny Port by Sandeman

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/syvmn/sandeman20sm.jpg Most expensive bottle tried to date and I had pretty high hopes for it. It has not disappointed. It is also the lightest colored port I have tried so far. For me, this is the first truly "pop and pour" I have tried. Most of the ...

Realistic Ageing? 1850/1880 colheita's

I'm still a young VP when it comes to port and I have a simple question about "OLD" Port/Madeira/Colheitas. I keep seeing people talk about stuff from the 1800's and it makes me wonder about aging. I know (at least I think I know) that most of these wines are way past their peak, but peopl...

My second passion is beer and brewing. If you haven't already, you HAVE to find a can of Surly Furious and give it a go. Make sure you are seated and have a syringe of adrenaline ready in case your heart stops.

Re: 2004 Quarles Harris LBV

I would rank it below both the Noval Black and the Noval 2003 LBV, but it is definitely not a chore to drink. For a rock bottom price it is definitely a good buy, at least for a beginner like me. I can't wait to buy and try some of the Quevedo LBV's and see how they compare to the other ones I have ...

2004 Quarles Harris LBV Port

Bought this at Trader Joe's for an easy $13 at the same time I bought a few 2007 VPs and a 10yr Tawney from the same producer. I posted a tasting note on the 10yr and I ran into similar things with this LBV. Initially right out of the bottle everything was overpowered by spirit. I decanted 1/3 of th...

2006 Qunta do Crasto Touriga Nacional

Hey guys I bought a bottle of this when WTSO had it for $50. From what people were saying about it it seemed like a fair price for a good bottle. I, however, feel ashamed that I really don't know much about it. I tried to search for it but didn't find much. If anyone can enlighten me about it I woul...

Re: The Next Great "Subscriber's Only" Buyer's Op

Looks Awesome Roy! Its great to get to know a producer before buying/tasting. I can't wait to try the individual grapes in the bonus pack.

Any idea what a case will cost to ship to MN. I don't need an exact number just a ballpark so I can plan ahead. I've never bought a full case before! :D

I'm not sure where this can be viewed, but just out of curiosity, where did the Quarles Harris VP end up on his list...if at all?

Re: The Next Great "Subscriber's Only" Buyer's Op

Just out of curiosity Roy, how long is the buyer's op available for? I have some $$ saved up for this but I just dipped into it to get one of the Crasto Nacional bottles on WTSO. I get paid next Friday. Thanks for the help and for this Opportunity!

How often do you drink port?

I am just starting out in the wonderful world of port so I find myself with a glass about once every 3 days or so....meaning that I open a bottle and try it over 4-5 days, then wait a week or two before opening another.

How many of you have a glass every day? More than a glass a day? Etc..

Re: Noval Black

Just saw it here in Minnesota on sale for $17.99. I might go pick up a few more on monday.

The first one I had was great on day 2 and 3, and then seemed to peter out, though still tasty on days 4-10. Just my 2c.
