I've had a couple bottles of this over the past year and with about 6-8 hours of "air time" my experience more reflects Uncle Tom's at the 30 hour mark......no wow, but enough pow(!) to make smile! :D

The New Orleans flood has little in common with the conditions I suspect the subject bottles were exposed to. In New Orleans the water temp was in the mid-to-upper 80's (F), more than enough to quite literally cook the wine as it lay submerged day after day in it......and your flood waters on Octobe...

Greatly appreciate the feedback! Sounds like it certainly out performed the vintage! I grabbed 4 bottles and will lay them down for a while.

What is this unusual Port flaw?

Bottle condition: 1963 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port, cork completely saturated creating a bit of a crumbly mess to get out, previous signs of leakage, fill just below top shoulder. Sediment about an inch deep, color resembled golden tawny vintage Colheita. Decanted for sediment a couple hours prio...

Hi Mark - I'm working on an '85 Quinta do Noval this week and it's pretty darn fine, perhaps leaning toward a more finesseful style of port.....it took a good day to really unwind, and on day two showed its best. Still not quite at peak, but getting closer, depending of course on how mature you like...

Yep Jason (G), sometimes moving at the speed of light isn't fast enough to cut the muster on those Garagiste offerings.....I quite literally responded in an instant and got the three I asked for. Now for the 10 year and see..... Molson Brodeur (or whatever the spelling).....that is a flashbac...

Ken - with the expection of one rather bizarre slightly pushed out cork condition in a 1940 Malaga, I ha'ved excellent experiences with Sokolin.

Roy - their prices are all inclusive with the exception of shipping from NY to your locale.

Well gents, I wouldn't be so quick to entirely dismiss this one.....perhaps not 95 pts, but still a good port and at that price for a magnum, a no-brainer. Knock off 5 points and it's still a terrific deal.

Brian - is your experience with this particular vintage and bottling limited to the one bottle mentioned in your tasting note? I ask because quite to the contrary of your post, which implies a much lower quality expectation and significant bottle variation than I experienced, I've found notable cons...

1977 Quarles Harris Vintage Port

A bit crusty under the cap and sporting a thoroughly soaked cork which came out in two stages, the second requiring some finesse….none-the-less holding a distinctly vibrant ruby hue and presenting itself in a rather infant fashion. Good cellaring vs. closure – cellaring wins this round! Savored over...
