Re: 2007 Quinta do Crasto
The Tinta Roriz 2003 is great, among the best varietals they had crafted. Charming, elegant juicy, silky, high toned, briliant since the birth I prefer it to the Touriga Nacional 03, until now. After Touriga looses the baby fat, it gets dramtically more refined. Fortunately, plenty of bottles of bot...

Re: Symington vs. TFP
Both are really first tiers concerning Port and it`s a matter of style and the diferent terroirs for each wine. However I stil do not understand why TFP hadn`t yet invested in Douros (non fortifieds), while the Symigntons have a remarkable job, and commitment regarding the development of Douro wines...

Re: TN: Caves Velhas 1966
Many years ago I had a wondeful bottle of Caves Velhas Romeira garrafeira 1959 , one of the most remarkable portuguese table reds up to now. Went in a dinner finished with Noval Nacional 1963 and was not diminished by the great Port I still have a last bottle in the cellar, waiting for some day to g...

To drink now, the 1970.
To keep for the future, the 1994.
Never tasted the legendary 31 yet.

Re: What's been your favorite Port(s) tasted in 1st 1/2 of 2009?
* * 1960 Ferreira - one of the finest bottles I've had from this underappreciated vintage. Agree. A great Port. Tasted it last year or the year before and posted here or in another place, can't remember right now. Try the 78. The smoothness and complexity of the 60 , even more vibrant, and lively. ...

1978 Ferreira Vintage Port
Has some bottles and drank all, except one during the 90s. Always a wonderful vintage, perhaps among the best Ferreiras. The last bottle was drank last week. Perfectly mature, still with life to go ahead more 10 years, but the pleasur for drinking now is so great that is someone may have a bottle, I...

Re: Porto 1880
I I know a handful of folks who will regularly invest in bottles at auction, with "unknown shipper" designated, hoping to win a bottle such as this. The success rate in doing so is probably no better than 50/50 but what the heck, nothing ventured ... :winepour: Well, but if You pay less f...

1880 Unknown Producer Vintage Port
A great old Port: Porto 1880 .Was it from 1880 ? Just a small strip of the label was left, impossible to recognize anything. No IVD seal. Hand written the year (1880) and the provenance as gift from a monk - to the friend that brought the bottle. Medium cork, came out into pieces. Bright light amber...

Re: Pink Port launched to mixed reaction - [www.harpers.co.uk]
Finnaly could taste the Pink Croft , thanks to David Guimaraens who sent the bottle down here. Beautiful pink/salmon color with violet tinges. Very primary aromas, too primary for Port or even "wine". Sweet, quite sweet, light body.Framboise. Like waht we call here "capilé", a fr...

Re: Colheita 1900
I remember tags on Niepoort 1900 about 1,000 EURO or more,
a few years ago in Portugal wineshop. It's regarded as a very fine vintage.
For that price, I'd take a bet on the Borges.

Re: #9: What is your favorite vintage of Fonseca VP?
Just give it a rest, tune the occasion and them pull the cork.
Not heavy, not big. Great balance, velvety, ripe fruit, dried fruit,
mushroons, lingering, enticing, full, fresh. Hope it's holding. Had it
last time many years ago but the taste is still quite vivid in the memory.
