Re: Your thoughts on Suckling as Guest Corner Host

Hi all, in my case, I read the first few questions and answers, same approach for all guests... sooner or later I get drawn in and ask a question. In this case I just did not get drawn in. There was no charisma and I did not learn much from the answers so it did not trigger any questions in my mind....

Re: St George Day is April 23rd, what 2009 VP's will be declared

That's amazing a "9" vintage and wouldn't you know it my little girl was born in 2009. So I can be fair and set her up like I did for my son with his 2007. I had already discounted 2009, but guess I have replan now. Side note... 2007, 2008 and 2009 where all good in the Douro... is this gl...

Thanks Andy,

sounds very good.

Years ago I had lunch at Taylor's in Gaia, not sure if that restaurant is still around, but it was amazing experience.

Thanks

need ideas for a short trip (douro, gaia, porto, lisbon)

Hi all, a customer of mine will be spending a little more than 1 week in Portugal soon and asked me for some suggestions. I in turn need some help to formulate this to him and his fiance. I was thinking 1 night in Porto, then visit a couple of brands in Gaia and the train or boat to Gaia, 1 night in...

Re: Another viewpoint on Scion

Actually, even if I can't afford the Scion, I think it is a great deal...considering the age, the period it is from etc... Just compare to the 50-year old Glenfiddich at $23,000-$26,000 (!) CAD per 700ml , that is insane. I mean 50 years is nothing for a spirit, yes it evaporates more than wine but ...

Love of Port Awards: 10Y Tawny

Hello, I haven't tried Roy's selection for the winner but I can say that my recent bottle of Vallado 10 blew me away. I've had it twice and both times it was pretty clear to me that it is more like 15 year old , if you get what I mean. Not in-expensive (most expensive 10-yr I've ever purchased) but ...

Re: Newsletter #58: AQFTPT

Oh and I forgot the lower alchool topic... I think special products along the lines of Pink etc... or other creative attempts could be experimented with lower alchool, but in general I don't think that main products should be changed. That said, a range should be allowed 18-20 or 19-21. The place wh...

Hi all, Indeed, it was brilliant reading from the industry folks who responded. Best Port related reading in a long time for me. many topics that I find worthy of conversation while drinking Port [cheers.gif] "port" reserved name, is an oldie but goodie... I never saw a cognac from anywher...

Re: What is the BEST 30 year old Tawny you've had?

Oddly, 3o year old tawny is the type I've had the least,....crusted maybe the least actually but not many 30... I recall having a Kopke 30 when I turned 30 many years ago. I had more 30 year old Colheitas (so years from the 80s) then actual 30 Tawnies. Even 40 Tawnies are easier to find than 30 arou...

Re: SAQ again . . .

Yeah, I'm not against paying some taxes on " extra " carry ons.... the tax portion at SAQ is probably around 30% of cost price in the shops... but they are so greed that the "extra" carry-ons can cost 50% to 100% tax at the border. The official limit is two bottles of wine per pe...

Re: SAQ again . . .

Last time I looked into bringing inheritance bottles from Portugal to Montreal... this was a few years ago... Anyone try Ventozelo Touriga Nacional 2007?

Hi all,
Doesn't seem to appear in the TNDB or when I hit search here.
Was wondering if there are any published scores or notes or opinons... I can get my hands on some and was wondering it will follow the steps of 2001, 2003, 2004 & 2005.

Thanks

Re: João Nicolau de Almeida - November's Guest Corner Host

Hello Joao, thanks for taking the time to exchange with us. I have two questions. 1) Which type of Port do you find most challenging to create? 2) what is your guess at what the Port industry will look like in 100 years? You can speak on any aspect of the industry you want... growers, producers, shi...

Old whites hit the main stage?

Are we witnessing the rise of a category with more and more product offerings... Now that the IDVP has sanctioned the White version of Tawnies with age 10,20, 30, 40... since 2006. considering the small percentage of white grapes inside the port demarcated region, add to that extensive aging, this i...

Re: Nuance wine finer...gadget or real deal?

Thanks Eric,

you confirmed what I suspected:
1) VP sediment is whole other story
2) using it to pour into a decanter could be a way to get the best of both
3) should be fine for table wines poured into glass.

cheers

Nuance wine finer...gadget or real deal?

Hi all, I came across an add for this wine pourer that filters and aerates and even helps with drips on the table cloth... sounds almost too good to be true, anyone here use it and willing to share comments to help me decide if I should get this. I guess using it on wine is one thing and VP is anoth...
