Re: When do you drink Port?
Year round. Generally not with meals because I generally don't eat food worth even having my typical Ruby Reserve with. On the rare occasion I have a good burger or steak, I like Ruby Reserve [and got the idea thanks to this forum!]. For Valentine's Day this year, we had lamb and I brought a half bo...

Re: The decline of Sherry and the rise of Port and Madeira
I would love to get to know Sherry, particularly Amontillado, Oloroso, and Palo Cortado. I started looking for them in 2015 and have noticed that PA's selection has dwindled since then to only a handful. It's frustrating. Between half and full bottles I think I must have around 30 bottles of Sautern...

Taylor Fladgate Select Reserve
I was at a Total Wine in VA last month and for $30 found Taylor Fladgate Select Reserve.
What is this? Is it a Tawny Reserve?

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
Two bottles of Quevedo Crusted 2012, thanks to it being recommended on my thread asking about doing a tasting while camping. 3 bottles of Bin 27. I get excited to see when you guys get the bottles I drink regularly. [cheers.gif] Picked up a couple of half bottles of Quinta do Quevedo 2011 LB...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
First off, do we have anyone else from Ohio here? It would be nice to meet some local port lovers and find out best places to buy port. ~Ivan Hiya! I'm in Pittsburgh, PA. I don't know about buying in OH, but I think we have comparable retail prices. I think you have wider selection at the right sto...

Re: Good value port glass alternative?
I'm not recommending these over the Ravenscroft from the OP (which I've gotten to use several times and have been very happy with). I just found them and wondered what folks think of them? Magnesium infused? https://www.amazon.com/Wine-Enthusiast-Fusion-Classic-Glasses/dp/B007NWMPBA/ref=mp_s_a_1_20?...

Dios Baco Sherry
Dios Baco Amontillado, at least, was available in PA until 2018. Actually, hardly any Sherry is available here in the last few years. I finally found out yesterday that Pedro Romero went out of business in 2014. Anyone know what's up with the rest of Sherry? Is this the case anywhere else? Is there ...

Re: Bottle colour
I'm sure Andy is right, though. I doubt any of the producers use different glass for different markets in the same year - they mostly bottle it all at once and ship it wherever it is needed. (For "bulk" Ports at this level or lower, anyway.) So the color difference is most likely because ...

Re: Ports for a tasting while camping?
The temperature swings were part of why I hadn't taken the request seriously. I hadn't thought of keeping them in a cooler, duh. Good idea! An emergency blanket over it will insulate even better. I would skip the Tawny Reserve. I did a tasting of four last year and was disappointed by all of them. I...

Re: Feuerheerd Port
A friend brought their 20 Year Tawny to NYE. We didn't decant at all and didn't like it. It had a very artificial sweetness to it. I've seen a few favorable comments about it on here, but I wasn't a fan. Should it be any better after a few days?

Ports for a tasting while camping?
Every August I go camping for two weeks at a medieval reenactment in Western PA. It's in the 80s or 90s in the day, 40s to 60s at night, and humid. I joined my camp three years ago, but they've been camping together for thirty years. We get about sixty people from year to year. We host a big tequila...

I'll be in DC/Fredrick, MD Presidents Day/Valentine's weekend
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Feb 15-17 I'll be in DC at KatsuCon. I'm probably staying with a friend (who likes Tawny but has never had the good stuff) in Frederick Sunday and leaving Monday, maybe Tuesday. I'll be without a car. Is anyone around to get together? The best I can offer to brin...

Yahoo sold Flickr to SmugMug! No more Yahoo in Flickr!! Hooraaaay!!! Unfortunately, only storage for 1,000 photos for free accounts, FYI. I used Flickr as free, off-harddrive storage for photos until now and had just recently started posting pictures of Ports with tasting notes. I don't wanna buy a ...

2016 VP Prices/Anyone in or near Frostburg, MD?
What are the 2016s retailing for and are they in stores? 2011 was around $90 for TFP 750s. A few months ago, the PA stores website had 2016s "Coming soon" for around $125, now I can't find any. I think I've seen it said here that initial prices typically drop a little? How long does that t...

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
4x Blandy's Bual 5 year.
It's nothing special but I like it and it's on clearance in PA for $16, which I can afford! Two bottles are for tastings next year, the other two are for me.
Because it keeps after opening, Madeira seems like a wiser purchase on a budget.
