Re: Sad news!
There was a full page obituary to Serge in The Times earlier this week. He seems to have been a bit of a modern day hero in the way he managed to keep the vineyards and the wine trade alive during the various wars in the region. It would be sad if the production died with him so I hope it has been l...

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions
I went to the cinema for the first time in a long time last weekend to watch The Theory of Everything . Not only was this a fascinating insight into the life of Stephen Hawking the acting was phenomenally good from both of the lead characters. Oscar will surely be coming their way later this year. A...

9 bottles of Real Vinicola 1983 (that smell like vomit) and a case of Offley Boa Vista 1972 that is almost as bad.

Dom,
If you think back to the start of your career in the Port trade, what are three most significant advancements between then and now and is there anything about your time in the trade back then that you miss?

Hi Dom, it's good to see you here. My question is entitled: "Pink Port in the rear-view mirror" This new category was introduced a few years ago and was not without controversy. Those in the trade who decided to go down the pink route put forward the view that it was a drink that wo...

Andy, I found a number of hits on google last night where "Aloirado" was said to mean "Tawny".Andy Velebil wrote:The "Aloirado" seems to suggest this is a white Port, if my interpretation of it is correct that is.

The signature on the label also suggests that this s a different company. Graham's the Port producer are "W & J Graham" whereas this label says "G. J. Graham". Perhaps a member of the Graham family formed a different company?

Some of the terminals at Heathrow have branches of Berry Brothers & Rudd. I haven't tried it for a few years but you used to be able to buy anything from their list duty free and have it available to collect from the airport shop before your departure. BBR are not the cheapest but their Ports te...

Noval Nacional 1931
A researcher from Decanter magazine in the UK is looking for a picture of a bottle of NN31. Does anyone here have a picture of such a beast, ideally with a clear label on it? Better still, if anyone owns a bottle that they would be happy to allow to be photographed please let me know and I will poin...

Re: 3 Good Reasons to Drink Reserve Ruby Port
Generally we do not cook with wine so I cannot comment intelligently. But sometimes the cheaper brands of anything do better; for instance, when it comes to a gin & tonic, hands down the best gin is Gordon's. The nuances and refinement of a top shelf gin are lost in the mix; those rough edges o...

Re: 3 Good Reasons to Drink Reserve Ruby Port
I enjoy many of the Ruby Reserves mentioned here but I think it would be doing them a disservice to categorise them as cooking Port. Using the odd splash in an impromptu sauce when it is simply what is available is fine (I've done it with very fine Vintage Port so can't criticise anyone for doing it...
