2000 Fonseca vintage port

The cork came out in two pieces, the colour is medium garnet, lost a lot of his colour from the last time I opened one (in 2016). On the nose a lot of alcohol. I gave it some air and waited 4 hours to pour a glass. On the palate cassis, prunes and lots of sweet cherries, I taste no alcohol, low acid...

Re: Question about drinking window vintage port

Oké, thank you for your thoughts on this, so it might be an adult thing, funny, never thought of that. But this closed fase, is it predictable and the same for any brand or year? And are VP's from generally declared years shutting down longer dan single quinta vintage ports? Last two weeks I had som...

Question about drinking window vintage port

Some time ago I red (I think it was somewhere on this forum) about the drinking window for vintage port. Someone wrote that he had a rule of thumb and mostly started to drink his VP after 21 years. Please correct me if I'm wrong, or did misunderstood, but why would that make sense? And why choose 21...

1985 Fonseca vintage port

As I'm not drinking much port anymore I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. Bought it some years ago for about 60 Euro's. This is a very lovely VP with a lot of (dried) fruit, it is mouthfilling, a bit sticky (thick tears drowning down the glass) and a has a very very long aftertaste. Maybe jus...

1987 Fonseca Guimaraens and 1986 Graham Malvedos. I preferred the latter.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1985 Fonseca VP vs 2000 Fonseca VP. Tasted with some cheese after a fine dinner.
Both were lovely, smooth and very well drinking right now, but we all preferred the 2000 over the 1985, as the 1985 showed some heat/burning alcohol in the aftertaste.

Re: 2003 Croft Vintage Port

I bought both the 2003 and 2005 some years ago. I had the 2005 Croft Q. da Roeda several times and must say this really is a very nice single quinta vintage port. I can strongly recommend it!

Nice, very nice tasting Jasper!
Special reason why you didn't (get to) taste the 2011?

Re: Online shopping - what and from where?

So, it seems no one else has ordered port from online shops. Since it has not been mentioned yet I can confirm https://www.vinhodoporto.nl/ Fast and secure delivery. Thanks Jasper! I have ordered from a bunch in mainland Europe. I'll add my take later this week, but also realize that people, if the...

Re: 2015 VP's, will you buy?

Hiya oldies [friends.gif], Be just a young lad with 36 summers on my conscience, I still have time left to see the 2015 vintage mature over the next 20-40 years. So I will be buying heavily [yahoo.gif] Without having planned to much yet I will for sure get a case of 6 of each the following on En Pr...

Re: 2015 VP's, will you buy?

After the 2003 vintage I told myself this was the last, after the 2007 I told myself this was the last and after the 2011 vintage I told myself this was the last... But my oldest son and his wife have developed their taste for port over the last few years, so that's a good excuse, isn't it? So proba...

Re: 1970 Ferreira vintage port

This was my first Ferreira VP, but when other vintages are even better (soft/elegant), I'll try to find some other.
Any suggestions?

1970 Ferreira vintage port

Opened today at a celebration. The cork came out in two pieces, the colour is transparent ruby in the middle and just a tiny bit of brick at the rim, regarding the age I had suspected it to be much more brick/orange. The nose is quite nice, not so tawny-like, so I'm hopefull. The taste is very very ...

Re: What is the problem with cardboard boxes?

When you leave your purchases in stock at the wine traders cellar, they lie down in there owb too, so why being anxious about it? When the temperature is constant and the moist is good and the cellar is dark, it shouldn't be a big problem. I keep almost all my VP, Bordeaux wines, etc in their own wo...

1970 Santos Junior VP. Got it by accident (wrong deliverence)
Don't bother looking out for this, over the top, more like a tawny, burning spirit, disjointed, too much heat. A waste..

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

2011 Graham's VP
2011 Vesuvio VP

Next to the Dow's and Niepoort the only 2011 VP's I've bought, just trying to stop buying young vintages as I probably won't have the pleasure to drink them when they're mature..
