Re: SUPER BOWL 50 -

I also feel that Chancellor should have been the MVP two years ago. With respect to yesterday's game, I believe that is an illustration of an ancient proverbial adage that pride goes before a fall. For what it's worth, I think the rather lopsided game in some ways put a more favorable light on the P...

Re: SUPER BOWL 50 -

I wish I could call that an entertaining game, but am having a tough time doing so.

But there is news so it appears about Beast Mode:

Re: SUPER BOWL 50 -

I'm taking Carolina, but would be very pleasantly disappointed with a Denver upset.

SB wine still being considered - leaning towards Cote Rotie. :winepour:

Re: SUPER BOWL 50 -

Speaking of wagering, there are odds for the colors of Gatorade bath being administered to the winning coach, with orange being the most popular as of yesterday. If I were a betting man, I would take blue.

TN: Chateau de Beaucastel 2011 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

Well, it was nice to finally give this wine a shot after holding it for 2 years. This is the white made from century old vine Roussanne, in limited quantity and priced at or over (in my area) $100 US. This needed a little aeration, producing a glorious bouquet of apples and pineapples laced with cin...

TN: Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2004

Uncorked February 4, 2016. Very nicely done, perhaps a bit heavy on cedar in the bouquet. The chap with whom I was having quite an opulent dinner said it smelled like a new oak barrel. It did not taste overly oaky though. Good palette weight and length (IMHO), cigar box (wood, earth, and vanilla) sc...

Re: TN: Guigal 2000 Hermitage

There have certainly been some interesting comments on this thread. :-) I believe the Guigal Hermitage apart from Ex Voto is still regarded as a pretty good wine in its own right, and in a poor vintage such as 2008, would even include declassified Ex Voto.

TN: Guigal 2000 Hermitage

This was quite a fun wine, a pseudo-/quasi-combination of negociant and beneficial if not legal ownership of vineyards in the process of being acquired from 2 other estates. It came from, I believe, two holdings in Les Bessards; one each in L'Hermite, Le Meal, Les Greffieux, Les Murets, and Les Baum...

Re: NFL Conference Championships

Brady was hit more times on Sunday than by any other QB in any game this season. This has led to the dismissal of the Offensive Line coach.

Re: SUPER BOWL 50 -

If that is an example of generosity, I shudder at the thought of what constitutes stinginess. I'm predicting the Panther QB's given name, courtesy of the Denver front 7, will be changed to Fig. PS He deserves a special award for the facial expression which most closely resembles that of his t...

Re: NFL Conference Championships

The NFC Championship game, in terms of competitiveness, was quite a different story. I dare say the Seahawks game a week ago was much better. Although this thread is football, I can't resist the urge to congratulate Milos Raonic on his thrilling 5 set victory over Stan Wawrinka at the Australian Ope...

Re: NFL Conference Championships

I think at the end of the day, when NE's longest run play is Brady for 11 yards, they were getting beat at the line of scrimmage by Denver's defense - whose pass rush looked somewhat like that of the NY Giants in their recent post season hey day. Congrats to Denver. The 2004 Calon Segur was swapped ...

As the forum owner aptly said about a week ago, to paraphrase, the talking's about done, and it's time to play.

Planned football wine: Chateau Calon-Segur 2004 - but might call an audible. :winepour:

Anyone who might be getting tired of Tom Brady ought to consider a potential 5th Super Bowl win would bring him closer to retirement. :-)

Was uncorked on Jan. 18, re-tasted yesterday and this afternoon. Fine bright amber color, not unlike Imperial Topaz. Quite viscous. Plenty of botrytis on the nose and in the mouth, with apricots, dried pineapple, and a bit of salinity, which in the last two days has been more pronounced. Pretty good...

Re: NFL Divisional Playoffs

Hello Glenn, congrats on your successful predictions. Are you saying Seattle-Carolina is the de facto NFC Championship game? Due to controversy about the failed initial coin toss, I would suggest, if it should happen again, that the players institute, with the same rules, a referee toss. Depending u...
