All bottles except for the Dow was under $23 :)
Were those 1/2 bottle cask samples?
Nope. Just a fellow who ran it to a bit of bad luck and needed to sell.

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

I will bring a 1985 Dow's and if R Smith doesn't want to bring the '85 Royal Oporto, I will bring that, too.

The date of Feb. 26 works for me.

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

Hi, sorry I missed this earlier, and then when Roy emailed me I had just gone away for a week. Anyway, I'm certainly up for whatever. It would be fun to meet all of you. Let me know what I need to do and what to bring, and I'll be there. Thanks for the heads up, Roy. Excellent, Brian. John and I ar...

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

Wow! Great to see people are willing to travel for a tasting; glad I happened upon this wonderful community. My original idea was focused on just getting to know people in the Chicagoland area who enjoy Port in a lower key setting. If there is a desire for a larger event that involves traveling for ...

Re: Dec. 2015: Your best Port tasted this year?

Great question! Judging by the responses, I need to join the FTLOP for the buying op. My lord, what a great looking bottle and presentation box that 60 yo is! My most notable from maybe 24 diferent ports I've had this year. Niepoort 09 LBV. Amazing cinnamon taste and finish, definitely most memorabl...

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

And some of us will travel for a tasting. But while I'd love to get together locally for even a comparative tasting of reserves and LBVs, the bar needs to be a little higher to warrant a plane ticket, etc. That's good to know. If anything transpires, the FTLOP general census will be in the know. Th...

"also for the fact that, after 155 years of ageing in cask, the wine is in perfect condition."

Will port hold up for this long? I imagine it would be vinegary and overly oxidized.

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

I'm in the Chicago area and would be interested in doing something. Hey Bryan, I'm Alex. Grew up in Orland Park, now I'm in Naperville. Do you know of any other port lovers in our area? I'm meeting someone at the Highland Park Binnys late Friday morning. Are there any good shops in that area or in ...

I made a Derby Pie for tomorrow. The pie is made with chocolate chips, bourbon, and pecans. I'm pairing the pie with a Fonseca Bin 27. Besides my wife and I, the majority of those we will be sharing our time with will be port newbies.

We plan on opening up a 2000 Sandeman's VP.

Re: How much do you spend per month on Port?

Since this past August we have acquired ~11 cases of Port. Only the 2008 Quinta do Panascal being a full case purchase(which just arrived :P ). Now it's mostly maintaining stock and filling in holes. Average bottle cost at this point is ~$61. This is a bit extreme, but nothing compared to those who...

Re: How much do you spend per month on Port?

I need to find some Chicago-area people to do tastings with. So far, I've definitely opened at least 12 bottles. For the past three months, I've had at least 8-10 ounces of port each night, on average. This seems like a lot compared to the amount others are stating they drink. I just started drinkin...

Re: How much do you spend per month on Port?

To answer the questions: A case of Port for me, has always been 12 bottles. At the peak of my collecting/drinking my cellar had slightly more than 900 bottles. It remains today nearly 750 bottles, but as I approach 60 years of age in a few years, I have made a concerted effort to drink down my cell...

Lancer's Vin Rose Dinner Wine

An individual posted a few cases for sale on Facebook of Lancer's Vin Rose and Vinho Branco. A picture of the rose is below. Anyone seen these before? Some questions before I purchase. Any idea on price? The seller says they are from 76 and 77. Bottles that are maybe 10 years old today go for $5.99-...
