Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
I had it shipped from Porto... but it took almost two months. Communication was iffy as well. I would pick up at Garrafeirra Nacional the next time you go to Lisbon.

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
I was hoping The Rare Wine Company would bring it in. It received a lot of great press.

None in the US (that I know of). Got it from Portugal (a place called Portugal Vineyards).

Surpisingly, I haven't drunk many Madeiras this year... but my top one was the 1950 Barbeito Madeira Tinta Negra MBV.

2017 Niepoort Reserva Branco - An excellent Douro white wine! (Hand carried back from Portugal) I had this a few weeks ago. Unimpressive upon opening, but very impressive on day two. I will be cellaring a few. Have you tried the 2017 Coche? Btw, think you will be going on a 2020 Madeirathon with Roy?

Re: Bolo de Mel recipe - anyone?
I ordered some sugar can molasses from Madeira as well as some good quality US made sugar cane syrup and sugar cane molasses. I'm curious to see if either of the US made products taste similar to the Madeira product, which would certainly make things easier. Regardless, I'll try baking with all of ...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
1920 Cossart Gordon Malmsey is certainly one of the best Madeiras of the 20th century. [cheers.gif] If I am not mistaken, I believe Noel Cossart mentioned in his book "The Island Vineyard" that it was the last wine made from Malvasia Candida and was from Faja dos Padres... but I think Ale...

Also... nearby in Fall River is Portugalia. Great market with lots of Portuguese items... they might have some there as well.

I see that you are in Boston, so you may want to check out the annual Madeira feast in New Bedford on the first weekend in August: http://feastoftheblessedsacramentcom.ning.com/ They sell bolo de mel (and other desserts) at the Museum Cafe (although not quite as good as what I had at D'Oliveiras or ...

That 80 year old was amazing. Ricardo mentioned that it was too aggressive to bottle by itself but great for blending... but personally I absolutely loved the intensity of it.

Hey Glenn,
I was at the New York tasting and concur with your impressions. I also enjoyed the 30 year old Malvasia, always as good as I remember it... however at this tasting it was very cloudy in appearance. Was it also cloudy at the SF tasting? Just curious...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
I believe this D'Olly has now surpassed the 1988 for me and is the finest of the new age Terrantez bottlings, compared to even the 1977 and others. I was thinking the same thing the last time I had the 71 a couple of years ago. Not surprising, I guess, seeing how similar we rate Madeiras [cheers.gif]

It was the 2015. This was posted from CellarTracker and it looks like CellarTracker didn't have a photo of the 2015, so I guess it used a previous vintage.

TN: 2015 Vadio Bairrada
2015 Vadio Bairrada - Portugal, Beiras, Bairrada (1/22/2019) A new producer for me, from a young winemaker named Luís Patrão. My goodness this is good. Juicy red fruit -- so ripe yet so light, crunchy and crisp. The cranberry tartness reminds me a bit of a quality Cru Beaujolais in texture, but wit...
