1997 Gould Campbell VP Purhased in NYC for just $50, opened it the next night and absolutley lovely. Shared with numerous co-workers and very well received. Shared with co-workers…such the enabler. Hahah. I love it!! Of Course Andy!!! I bet I got 15-20 small pours out of it. To me, one aspect of Po...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

My daughter recently got engaged and the bloke was born in 1989...what a challenge to find Ports in that year! But I did!

3 x 1989 Kopke Colheitas.

Note: She was born in 1993 so this couple clearly has a birthyear Port problem---(I adopted 1994 for her years AGO.)

Re: What have you opened this week?

At my class reunion at Hamilton College I brought a 1983 Dows and my friend a 1994 Smith Woodhouse . The Dows was sublime---really in a good spot yet could be a touch more potential. Just lovely and roundly loved. The SW was also well received--I would say this needs another 5-10 years. Nice contras...

Re: Durand-style Openers

I have a Durand an it is freaking awesome! Never a serious issue getting corks out. Only drawback is it tends to damage the side of the cork obliterating any printed info. (so if a mystery bottle I would tong it). For $68 I might pull the trigger here if I were you. As to having a "longer one&q...

1982 Ramos Pinto Vintage Port

1.5 hour decant; saturated cork but did not leak. Fine sediment. Still a dark port - just looks a lot younger than 41 years. Powerful aromas with a floral element and blackberry - one of the more odiferous Ports I can recall. Beautifully rounded taste, fruit forwad with dark berries and a little str...

Re: What Unopened Bottle Have You Had in Your Cellar the Longest?

I gotta be honest---I am dissapointed there isn;t someone saying I bought a case of 1983 on release in 1985 or such.

Still, I love and appreciate everyone's responses. Seems like most on FTLOP are like me, came to Port in the last 20 years or so. Cheers!!

What Unopened Bottle Have You Had in Your Cellar the Longest?

I was logging in my recent acquisitions and was curious what bottle (unopened) I've had the longest. Turns out it is a tie:

2004 Quinta do Crasto LBV ($16)
2003 Grahams ($50)

Both acquired on 3/1/2010, but from two different sources. Prices all in (VAT and shipping if applicable).

So what you got??

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Has anybody ever bought a Magnum off WineBid and know how shipping for those work? Does it become the equivalent of 1/3rd of a case and ship with regular 750mls or what? Btw, they had a huge influx of Ports this week, normally it's around 200 results if you search for Port, this week it's 577 (alth...

Re: Graham's Malvedos Tasting April 22...Saturday

Here is a recap of this fun evening. Mike W. had the entire set of the Graham's Malvedos and I was quite excited about this tasting as I'd only had the 1988, 1995 and 2009 versions before so my depth here was lacking--and who does not love Grahams? We had 6 bottles for 5 people (quite a small group)...

Graham's Malvedos Tasting April 22...Saturday

Hey!!

We are having a Malvedos tasting and have an open seat or two. If you live near northern New Jersey and want to come PM me.

84-86-88-90-92 Malvedos (nothing odd) plus Mystery Port.... and you'll get to meet some fellow Portophiles.

All in under $200 with bottle adoption and dinner out.

Re: an interesting tasting

Nope. Never an entire flight or even close. That is really something....and not like it was a bunch of known hooligans such as an 83 Cockburn or 90s Niepoort.

So alternate meaning to WOTN: Worst of the Night.
