Re: Notice from Noval (USA) re: shipping "Buyers Op"
Anyone else out there who did not get any of the Noval ports? Unlike Glenn, I did not receive any.

Re: 1970 Taylor Vintage Port
We are big fans of Schramsberg sparkling wine, as our our friends that were visiting. I would not call that the champagne equivalent of a 1970 Taylor perhaps, but the wives were quite happy with it, particularly as they had a bottle of Reserve, followed by a bottle of the standard Blanc de Blanc. I ...

Re: 1970 Taylor Vintage Port
Remarkably, the wife did not even try the Taylor. [shrug.gif] Neither of them did, so my friend and I polished it off ourselves. The wives went the champagne route that night. More for me I suppose, although in the long run, there would be a smaller share for me of a much bigger VP pie if I could ge...

Re: 1970 Taylor Vintage Port
That is the first time for that vintage, and in fact, only the second VP I've had (the other was the 1995 Crasto that several folks here got mags of at a good price from Vinfolio). It has been a good early exploration of VPs so far. My wife has a strong preference for tawny and colheita, so only whe...

1970 Taylor Vintage Port
I've not done so many TNs, and have not had so many VPs, but here goes: Opened and finished on Nov 21, 2009. Decanted at 10:45 a.m. (accidentally had the stopper in for the first 6 hours of decant time...oops) Target was 8-10 hours decant time per Roy's suggestion. Open: A small taste upon opening s...

Glad I am not the only one still waiting on Noval. Although, I have not received either the 2007 or the others.

How important is storage for up to 5 years
Storage in ideal conditions is, well, ideal. I built a wine cellar (about 400 bottles capacity, only finished it just before moving and never filled it) at my previous house, but moved about a year ago. In my current house, I have a place in the basement earmarked for a cellar. It will probably be b...

Re: Digital SLR cameras: Canon or Nikon?
Roy, We had a Nikon D-70 and loved it. It was stolen, and we replaced it with a Nikon D-40, and love it too. I'm an amateur, and my wife is also an amateur but she does have a bit of a knack for it. I suggest checking out this website: www.kenrockwell.com I have never seen such an informative site. ...

Roy,
That is a shame. 1988 is a long time ago.
Of course, I and I'm sure others, will be happy to welcome you back to the Windy City. Count me in.

Unfortunately, we could not find a sitter and did not make the event. However, I'm on their email list so in the future I hope to be able to make it.

Re: Chicago area Port dinner
Eric,
Thanks for posting. I just saw it yesterday. As it happens, that is just a few minutes from where I live. If we can arrange a sitter on short notice, we are definitely going.
Anyone in the Chicago area planning to attend? They still have space.

Re: What is your favorite Champagne?
Domestic is Schrambsberg--I'm with Roy on that. Love the Reserve and Blanc de Noir. J Schram is great for most vintages, but we've had a few where I would prefer the Reserve or be just as happy with the BdN. The wife and I got married in Napa eight years ago, toured Schramsberg (great cave tour ther...

A friend and I bought all of it they had after having it, which was about 10 bottles I think.

Re: The Next Great FTLOP Importer-Direct Buying Op
I got an email yesterday confirming my entire order (13 bottles). I wish I had the funds right now to buy 13 more, as I'm getting one of several bottles that I would love to get 2 or more of.
I guess I will start saving for the next one. The horror...

Basic Q on tawny vs VP and LBV
My wife and I have been into Port for about 1/2 year (goes back longer but very infrequent). We tend to prefer tawnies and colheitas. My wife in particular does not care too much for rubies. I've purchased a few VPs over the past six months, mostly from vintages in the 90s and some 03s. But we've no...
