Thanks. Will be looking forward to it, when it appears here from the auction house.Svein CE wrote:I just finished a Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port 2011, and thought it was a delightful bottle of port, even though very young.
I am sure your 1967 Colheita will be good too.

Re: 1967 Quinta da Romaneira Porto Colheita
I've since seen information that this is of the biggest Quintas on the river, and is a producer also of Colheitas. Be of interest to find whether I like the one I bought.

1967 Quinta da Romaneira Porto Colheita
This bottle was picked up as incidental to a mixed lot of porto. I have no information about the house or about the wine itself. Any help out there from the ex-perts?

Re: Interstate shipping crackdown
Strange thing about liberty. It evaporates if it isn't fought for. That's its cost and I think will always be. So even after maybe 10 years of struggle for freeing the grapes, it's been very easy for vested interests to just pull a few levers and things are little or no better than they ever were. A...

Early days yet; this could be sort of a blog, multimedia or no, at some convenient time. Or just some written memorials Undoubtedly early next year. Any of you have any bottles in your cellar, or readily obtainable, that would bring up stories or memories? I can remember an 1 967 Christoffel-Prüm Wü...

Schwarz is a master of Rieslaner, certainly. I have no idea what makes this grape potentially a great producer in a given place, but he certainly does! Just like Wittman does with Albalonga. And I don't think we'll have to despair of our 1998s going over the hill anytime soon.

Re: A Bucket Swansong: What to Do with our Remembrances of Things Past
John, Any time frame you thinking of? Good question. Just Sunday Jackie and I were able to set a date for our wedding (December 9 Saturday 2017) and will be wandering around for maybe 3 weeks: Talking about Florida, the West Coast, Traverse City Michigan area; others are possible. Because my cancer...

Speaking of cigars, I found 2 handmade medium-size ones in a humidifier pack in the LeCache, that must be 10 years on kept at 70 percent humidity. Yours for the asking if I can get them to you, Roy or whomever speaks up first. Think they're Jamaican.

A Bucket Swansong: What to Do with our Remembrances of Things Past
As someone who has definitively warned off by my doctors from buying wines that won't be mature in a year or two, I'm wondering if a bucket-list blog containing the adventures of my efforts to deal with the remains of my cellar, early as well as late, as well as the wines consumed or suggested would...

Re: TN: Ch. Vartely Muscat Ice Wine 2011: Move Over Canada!
a 1968 or 1975 Yquem I had a bottle of the 1968 a few years ago, and still have one in the cellar. If my first bottle is any indication, this one doesn't need to be on your list. But of course at that age, there are no good years, just good bottles. You caught me in the middle of an edit, Eric. The...

Re: TN: Ch. Vartely Muscat Ice Wine 2011: Move Over Canada!
John, We definitely need to get together again and have some wine! Ever find yourself in the Midwest? We'll also probably go south to Florida after our early December wedding and be there for two or three weeks. Or perhaps we'll do a ecology-biology based tour in the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, or P...

Never found a creature labeled anything like 'Cabernet Port' that I could generate much affection for, except for the label on the Quady stuff you could buy in Detroit several decades back!

Re: TN: Ch. Vartely Muscat Ice Wine 2011: Move Over Canada!
Sounds like more of a botrytis styled than pure ice wine. Knowing as you do my preferences for 'healthy' Ice Wine versus 'Infected' ice wine, I dare say, Eric. Was just sitting here wondering if I'm going to get a chance to open up a bottle or three of my bucket list wines, such as a 2002 Dönnhoff ...

Re: TN: Ch. Vartely Muscat Ice Wine 2011: Move Over Canada!
Eric, this scent/flavor was actually quite subtle and probably added complexity; not at all like Passover wine. I also detected the same note in a Boundary Breaks (Seneca Lakes) supposedly 100 percent Riesling Ice Wine 2013 a week or so prior that I thought was more of a fault or more detectable. Pe...

Re: TN: 2012 Paso Port Violeta Portray
I wonder if the makers of these non-Duoro non Portuguese wines (that in places like Australia have more than a little interest) are working on an alternative nomenclature for them. Don't think any I've ever heard of has been entirely satisfactory. Also, the style differences among these wines are mu...

Re: TN: Ch. Vartely Muscat Ice Wine 2011: Move Over Canada!
Eric, I'm sure you know the flavor of labrusca spp. grapes, as distinguished from those of Vitis vinifera. A substance called methyl anthranylate gives the former a flavor almost exactly like concord grape jelly or Mogen David wine. While a flavor we're used to in such circumstances, it may not be p...

Re: Your decanting regimen and use of "devices" ...
One thing I shared with Roy elsewhere, I think, after wondering whether there was a correlation between using the ah-so at right angles to the grain of the cork or parallel. This after many erratic results. A. It would intuitively seem that the force from compression of the cork would make a right-a...

Re: Your decanting regimen and use of "devices" ...
1. Stand the bottle up a day or three before if possible. If dirty/dusty I will clean the bottle off at this time careful not to disturb the contents. If exposed cork will spend extra time so no drink and grime is in the wine. 2. Use a foil cutter and whatever else necessary to get to cork. I have ...
