Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
Yes, this was an 1870 Teixeira Terrantez OP Brothers recorked bottle. It was the group's #2 rated bottle out of the ten tasted.

Re: Cellar thinning - Frasqueiras
Hi Andreas,
I'd love to take a bunch of these off your hands, but I'm in NYC. If you can think of a way to transport them, please let me know.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Christies. What did you win?
Hi Justin- It was a tough crowd. With absentee bids, I was only successful on three lots, for a total of four bottles. That was out of 16 lots. Lot 460- 2 bottles 1894 H&H Malmsey Founder's Solera Extra Choice-- $735 Lot 479- 1 bottle 1907 D'Oliveiras Malvasia Reserva-- $367.50 Lot 514- 1 bottle...

I agree with Marco-- both are outstanding Madeira, but the 1903 is a little richer.

Re: Sercial--what is the best Serical eyeopener?
1971 D'Oliveiras Sercial is excellent. I wouldn't spend more than $150, including shipping and delivery.
I haven't tasted the 1989 D'Oliveiras Sercial, but it's supposed to be quite good and runs closer to $100.

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
Certainly does look legit. Conti Brothers was the importer for Abudarham. I have a few Abudarham Madeiras, but none from the 1800's. Quite exciting! The fill level shouldn't be an issue. I've had many great Madeiras from low fill bottles. On May 1, I opened a bottle of 1907 Blandy's Bual that had a ...

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
What a score! These bottles should be terrific! The only problem I've had with Acker Madeira is some discrepancy between wine named in the lot and the wine that gets delivered. I recently got an Acker lot described as 2 bottles of 1957 D'Oliveiras Terrantez. It was, as I had feared, 2 bottles of 195...

Re: New England Madeira Offline: New York - Connecticut - Massachusetts
I wish I could make it, but mid-week is bad for me (unless the Madeira group meets in NYC).
Also, June 16th is my father's 93rd birthday, so I'll be spending that evening drinking 1922 Boal with dear ol' dad.
Have fun.

Re: Lots of Madeira at Christie's online auction
I already posted this under the Zachy's Auction, but figured it should really be on the Christie's thread: In the Christie's live auction, I got 2 lots-- 6 bottles of 1894 H&H Founder's Reserve Solera and 12 bottles of 1912 D'Oliveiras Verdelho Reserva (bottled 2011). In the Christie's Online au...

Re: Zachy's Early Spring Auction - Madeira - Co-Ordination Thread
Hi Matt- I think your analysis is pretty accurate. I was successful on none of the Zachy's lots. In the Christie's live auction, I got 2 lots-- 6 bottles of 1894 H&H Founder's Reserve Solera and 12 bottles of 1912 D'Oliveiras Verdelho Reserva (bottled 1911). In the Christie's Online auction, I w...

Re: Are you ready for this?
I managed to get to the pre-auction tasting, and it was excellent; there were a number of unusual bottles that had been open since April 2014. It gave me some insight into where to put in my highest bids (especially after talking with Edwin Voss). His tasting notes from the catalog were spot on, bas...
