Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Speaking of Vinho Verde, I was wondering if Bartholomew has tried many Sparkling (Espumante) Vinho Verde and what his opinion of them are. Seems to be tough to find in the US. I haven't had full on Sparkling Vinho Verde but the classic Vinho Verde has a spritz and that is the style of our Broadbent...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Bartholomew, You're Vinha Verde is one that I've enjoyed a lot and I buy some every year for a nice chilled summer drink. Is there any plans on doing a red Vinha Verde under the Broadbent label? Our Broadbent Vinho Verde has become one of our two biggest selling wines, the biggest is Spy Valley Sau...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Have to say, the label made me pass by it for years as I did not recognize it as being port from Portugal. It wasn't until I put 2 + 2 together to realize that it was your port! Broadbent does not leap out at me like the Madeira does. I find your Auction Reserve to be more appealing than Six Grapes...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

By the way, someone just posted some fun video footage of foot treading at Quinta do Crasto. It is on our Facebook.. http://www.facebook.com/broadbentselections I hope you all become fans of that Facebook page. If you scroll back to the early day posts [from about April], there is amazing footage of...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

I am particularly excited about our Broadbent Auction Reserve. It is one of the only Ruby Reserve level Ports that I drink! I keep several half bottles around for those days when I don't want to open a full bottle of something, yet still need a glass of Port. I tried several reserves before finally...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Hi Bartholomew, Also, what was the most memorable Madeira you recall tasting? Thanks! I was once sitting in my father's study when his phone rang. I answered it. The caller said "Mr. Broadbent?" I said "Yes". They proceeded "we're calling to remind you of the tasting tomorr...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

It's only Monday afternoon and David and Marco have already asked the Madeira questions I was going to pose. :yumyum: I was with David at Justino's when your and the regular Justino wines were tasted side by side. I've a bottle of the Old Reserve Terrantez ready to open in a couple of weeks. I also...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

The Broadbent Old Reserve Terrantez is an unusual wine... Wow... thanks for that superb summary on the history of that wine. It's great to have it archived here on Roy's forum. For a stroll down memory lane, here is a pic from the Citizen Cake tasting: http://www.wineloverspage.com/sb/images/315755...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Wine Spectator is did not score well, yet subsequently has been almost universally praised, including Roy Hersh's review, as the finest of all the 10 year old Malmseys. Roy, himself, recognized the improvement, which was the most valued recognition I could hope for. I adore the your 10 year Malmsey...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Hi Andy I still want a ride in your cop car! The cop car is waiting for your next visit to L.A., just let me know. When you decided to make a Vintage Port, what led you to chose Dirk Niepoort to make your Ports? Are there any plans to make a Tawny with an indication of age or a Colheita Port? Many ...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Hi Bartholomew, In 2001 I attended a Madeira tasting you and Paul Costigan (of The Rare Wine Company) hosted at Citizen Cake in San Francisco. One of the wines I enjoyed was the Broadbent Terrantez Old Reserve, a wine that seems increasingly difficult to find. Is this wine still being produced? Als...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Hi Bartholomew, Thanks for doing this! When we were in Madeira last May, Justino's tased us on both your wines and theirs. Contrary to what I had been told previously - that the Broadbent wines were just a relabel of the Justino's - your Broadbent Madeiras are quite different from the Justino's. Wh...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Bartholomew will be here on Monday and I hope you'll all have great questions for him! I'll start with this one: Hi Bartholomew, What is your first memory of drinking Vintage Port and do you remember which it was? My first memory? I wish I could remember the last, let alone the first! I do not real...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Hi Bartholomew, Do you feel that the current 3-tier system for importing and distributing wine in the US still has value, or should we scrap it and find a different system? If you believe it still has value, could you explain how it helps consumers? But if you feel it should be scrapped, what kind ...

Re: Bartholomew Broadbent = September's Guest Corner

Bartholomew, It's no small task starting an import company, so what made you decide to start one? thanks Andy Hi Andy I still want a ride in your cop car! Why did I start an import company? I came to N.America in 1982 for a two year contract with the top Canadian wine Agency. Whilst there, I met Ja...

Re: Broadbent to sue over Billionaire's Vinegar

Andy, but I think he wanted to believe too much. An example would be tritely discounting the negative opinion of the world's authority on all things Jefferson. I would hope an auctioneer would be more dispassionate. As a result, some of his customers were defrauded. This is interesting. For a start...

Re: Broadbent to sue over Billionaire's Vinegar

In answer to the question "why sue now?": It is nothing new. It is true that the news was broken by a UK newspaper, the Daily Mail, on July 23rd but the case has actually been in legal hands for over a year. The lawyers were appointed after the book was first sold in the UK, where it is ac...

Prices in America - What is happening?

Thanks for inviting me to reply. Alas, these are not mistakes and they are the result of the prices given to us by Justino's, so I hardly think they will switch importers. In any case, we own the Broadbent brand and we don't import Justino's wines. That said, let me explain a few things. When I re-l...
