Port Vintages: Addendum

The preface to Port Vintages hinted that there might be a publication of additions and errata. And some readers have attentively studied the whole book, a mere 390k words, and sent such corrections. So an Addendum is now published. Links: Addendum_Printable.pdf (high resolution, for printing, 40.7 M...

Re: FTLOP's OFFICIAL 2017 Vintage Port thread

Croft Quinta da Roeda "Serikos" Andy has omitted the diacritic (e-macron) in “Sērikos”. Observe how the “ē” didn’t make it into its URL: http://www.croftport.com/en/catalogue/roeda-s-rikos-vintage/s-rikos-2017-vintage/ (Port not tasted. Naming it ‘silken’ is good. But I’m not a fan of the...

Thank you.

I also favour in declaring based on this year’s Port, without regard to last year’s. As quoted in Sandeman 1935: “From Fletcher, page 48, re 1934 and 1935: “Perhaps … Sandeman had the right solution in shipping both years”.”

Readers might be interest in a thread entitled Musings on a book (not started by me; on the other major Port bulletin board).

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

My copy arrived yesterday. The box was opened and the book was very slightly damaged, but I am OK with it as-is. Now I don't have to worry so much about spilling Port on a pristine copy. Very impressive work. I thumbed through it quickly and can't wait to spend some quality time with it. Very happy...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

I went to the web site, and it looks like they're announcing a resumption of sales in 2019. So it must have done well. However, it does reduce the exclusivity of those of us who thought we were getting a one-off printing of the book (or maybe it was just me). Not all were sold. Because of the fulfi...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

I received mine today too. Although it wasn't as bad as some people's, I was surprised at how little packaging was done to protect it. There are several pages that are dented, but I don't see a corresponding dent on the packaging. It could have happened prior. I guess I'm fortunate that it made the...

Most people who had multiple orders going to the same address had their orders merged. I failed to do that for you — slightly different wording fooled my algorithm. I hope it comes soon, and undamaged.

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

My first copy arrived. Box was partially shredded and open on one end, but somehow the book was in fine condition. Waiting on the 2nd copy. I thought there would be more pictures of the bottles, but it was fun reading while sipping a '60 Taylor. Great 1st edition. I’m pleased the book is saf...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

Mine just arrived...damaged. The fulfilment company had one job to do, and did not do it well. I’m also angry. Please send me an email with pictures that I may forward to the fulfilment company, which will then send fresh and retrieve broken. I have been told of an anonymous American phoning the fu...

Nearly sold out. There is some stock, but not sure precisely how much. The few remaining will be sold in early 2019. But those in a hurry might try the wine merchant Lea & Sandeman, which bought many copies for subsequent sale.

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

Received my copy today. I am totally not pleased. Book came in damaged. Packaging was open, bookcover ripped, corners and edges bent/buckled. The fulfilment company has not done well: you are doubtless disappointed; I am angry. If you haven’t yet sent an email (sales@ the website), please do, and a...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

UPS informs me that I have a package arriving tomorrow, shipped from Glasgow. I cannot think of anything else that might be arriving from Glasgow, so I am optimistic that my copy of Port Vintages will arrive tomorrow. I believe this to be the single copy that I ordered, with the bulk order (6 copie...

Nonsense! All FTLOP readers have extensive supplies of Fonseca 1817, of Tuke Holdsworth 1756 and 1757 (side-by-side comparison, of course), and at least a little of Martinez 1869.

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

Reports have been received of single books arriving in Cornwall, and in St Andrews. A bulk shipment of books arrived in South London. But a single that was ordered to be delivered to my office in central London did not come today (Tue 4th Dec). Make of that what you will. Edit: also a single near Ro...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

Or I’ll just drink a case of 40s. For a while I was both worried and impressed. A case of ‘40s to accompany the first reading of The Book. That was taking The Book seriously, as it should be. And then Glenn mentioned 40YO Tawny and all became clear. There wasn’t about to be a case of 1945s r...
