Re: A NEW CLASS OF FTLOP'er

:scholar: I would like to thank the very Honorable 'Dean' Hersh for those encouraging words. As a member of the FTLOP Class of 2010, I'm truly honored by those who have gone before me, and those who will continue to light the torch; a torch that will burn brightly; a brightness that will illuminate ...

Why Are The Casks Black?

I was going through several photographs of Roy's tours to Madeira and Port producers. Why are some of the casks so, so black in color? Are they painted?

The best,
Barry

Re: 1938 Kopke Colheita

Purchased during the FTLOP buying opportunity and opened over Thanksgiving to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. (Dad is a 1938 Vintage.) 1938 Kopke Colheita bottled 2007 Tasted after a handful of dried cherries, so probably not showing its best initially. Improved with air time (and d...

2007 Graham's Vintage Port

Broke into a .375 of this. As a pop 'n pour, this is DENSE primal juice. Thick, JUICY, boat-loaded with dark fruits, and just plain, down-right PLEASURABLE to drink. [yahoo.gif] What I dig about opening such a young bottle of port, besides loving its youth, is the fact that it will stay alive for se...

Re: '90 Single Cask Blandy's Malmsey

A few days later, this Blandy's has really charged up more in the orange-citrus realm, becoming more of the centerpiece. Yum.

'90 Single Cask Blandy's Malmsey

My second Madeira...
This is very rich, very tawny-like in its mouthfeel, nuttiness, depth, and length. Relative to my prior Madeira, a 10 year-old Broadbent malmsey, this is more unctious, more deep and stoic, but less vibrant and citrusy.

Re: '63 Rocha Tawny .375 at $55?

Now Barry, while you certainly have first dibs on this and very well may buy up all that is available, it seems only fair to me that if others share their advice, ye shall also share the source. Just sayin'. :D Eric, There is a incredibly grand total of an enormously big amount of 1 bottle (a .375 ...

Re: My First Madeira...Broadbent 10 Year Malmsey

Hey Roy,

I'll keep 'a bit' :D for next week.

BTW, I'm thinking about getting a bottle of the '68 d'Olly Reserva Bual this weekend.
How would the Broadbent 10 Malmsey compare to the '68 Bual?
Thanks, Roy!

I'm excited to be part of the FTLOP gang! Bring it on!! :scholar:

Re: My First Madeira...Broadbent 10 Year Malmsey

On Night 2, this is really articulating itself more 'orangy' than my original assessment of grapefruit.
I'm very enamored with this wine...lush, while also vibrant and energetic.

What's MY tawny doing in your grapefruit? What's my grapefruit doing in YOUR tawny? WOW!
