Re: J.W.Hart ports

I'm pretty good with Google if I take the time I usually find what I need. yes Eric, you will see that some years come in different size bottles but I may have missed something when I was typing. I took the time to type it so that if someone does a search on a specific year or on this brand they wil...

Taking a closer look at this picture... http://www.finestwine.com/images/pagespirits/J.W.hart_grand.jpg Reveals all... wine produced and bottled by CD Vintners (old Croft and Delaforce owners) in Gaia for the French group Ryst-Dupeyron which then imported them and sells them in France. Re: Planning, Thinking, Dreaming?

Well, I must confess that since i'm fluent in Portuguese (thanks to my parents and saturday school)... I've often dreamed of getting a small property that would have enough vines for <5000 bottles of table wine, maybe some olive oil, and jams, aguardente. Set up a small B&B that my wife could op...

Re: Montreal en Lumière Festival

Interesting,

I always found Portugal to be very poor at marketing itself (tourism) and its products relative to countries like Spain, France, Greece, Italy...

And visiting Montreal in Feb is courageous for those not familiar with -30 centigrade.

I love my city.

ok taking the plunge on 2007 VP

Well, I just committed to buy 1 case of .....Grahams from LCBO/Vintages. I will probably buy another case of something... still undecided probably from SAQ later this year. Maybe some singles of various labels or maybe one label again... we will see what turns up as the choice seems limited so far i...

Re: SAQ vs LCBO

Things are slower at the SAQ.... I think they are currently reviewing offers from the distributors (one I know for sure) with still no commitment to buy and then offer us any from that distributor/rep. Ifthey do commit to 2007 it will be on the sheves in November (again same source/rep). I suspect t...

Re: At what price are you a buyer?

Hi Roy, I think VVV is trying too hard to be competition to Nacional. Too me the prices I've seen in canada so far (Ontario/ Vinatges) are silly. Without the heritage, and auction history and undisputed top caliber quality it seems premature to be in that price range just on the ground of low number...

Re: Port Pricing

Hi Fred, actually my comparisions done with in Portugal prices to SAQ prices reveal far more creativity by the SAQ. I suspect that depending if they also sell other products by a producer wine, port , white , red some group pricing takes effect. example shifting profit from one product to another to...

Port Fining and stabilizing

Ok folks, can someone describe the deal here with egg whites, gelatin, milk etc... what is the most common agent used for Port? I'm proud of my port knowledge limited as it is, but i have to admit that this topic as it applies specifically to Port still escapes me. So if anyone here can shed some li...

Re: Would you like to see White Vintage Ports popularized?

Hi all, I don't think there are enough white vines planted in Grade A spots to produce enough for bottle aged VP. Keep in mind that a bottle run of less than 5000 bottles is a tricky business case. But I'm certain that white colheita with date could work as could white tawny blend of 10, 20, 30 and ...

Re: Would irrigation improve Port wine?

Hey Roy, Correct, I think it is just the first 3 or perhaps 4 years of a vine that it even needs water. The old saying a vine has to suffer to produce good wine... but I guess that was before global warming started to cook the vines like we saw on some years. Perhaps for table wine, but for port, I ...

Re: A QUESTION FOR THE PORT TRADE

Hi Roy, my question would be: Where do you see the Port Trade, the Port Market and your brand(s) in 50 years? Basically, looking for thoughts on new port styles, innovation, less styles, consolidation or more small independants, move to high end(low volume, niche) or move to low end(high volume), em...

Re: Who is currently putting Ports away for their children?

My son's year is 2007 so far indications look promising this release... I will certainly buy some for him or for us to enjoy together. Oh and any colheitas I can find. As he grows up he will be exposed to it and his parents drinking it so he most likely will have some level of interest I hope. Next ...

Kopke Colheitas make it big in Ontario, Canada

This info might be of value to some... who said Coheita port is hard to find in canada (...I think I did once). Going over the government alchool point of sales web site in that province, to my surprise a really nice span of Kopke.... would love to see that all lined up on a shelf in my cellar... He...

Which VP year do you have the most bottles of?

Hi friends, I'm back from my vacation in Portugal (more on that in another post)... Not sure if this type of question has been asked before but I was curious where folks here have loaded up... In my case it kind of refects when my budget started to permit this and also based on local availability as...

Re: OSBORNE PORT?

What I recall from Osborne, is that back in 2000 it was one of the nicest places to visit in Gaia of the 6 or so I visited on that run. Very well kept, excellent tour guide, plenty of histort of Port not just Obsorne marketing...etc... But not much of VP quality... I seem to recall some decent white...
