Re: Buyer's Op Redux
It's easier to get old Colheitas? I'm curious why that is. Could we maybe just build a pipeline that funnels them directly into my house?

Re: Buyer's Op Redux
Melanie, I appreciate what you are saying. Many of the wines offered are not that easy to come by, while others are ... but these are typically very solidly priced and advantageous for the buyer. In all honesty, I am not going to put the wines here in the Forum for people to vote on. Sorry. What yo...

Re: Buyer's Op Redux
My ability to participate in these buying ops will always be very limited, but I'll chime in with my :twocents: for what it's worth : 1. I would be most interested in Ports that are hard to find locally, or hard to find period. At this stage I'm usually buying Ports that I haven't had the opportunit...

I haven't had the chance to go shopping for my bottle yet, but I guess I better get on that soon! I have been out of town for Christmas.

Ferreira Reserve Port -- Dona Antonia
Color: Interesting color for a Port, almost like a tawny that had some ruby Port dumped into it. I guess I'd call it reddish brown. Or is it brownish red? Nose: I get the 'hot' smell that I often find in Port, and nothing else. Palate: This keeps morphing with different flavors. Initial tongue tingl...

Ramos Pinto 10-year tawny -- Quinta de Ervamoira
Color: Brownish red, fading to orange near the edges. Almost reminds me of cherry cola, but not quite as dark. Nose: I can almost smell dried fruit, but mostly just the usual "tawny port" smell. Palate: Chocolate at first, then some slight dark dried fruits, fading to a fairly hot finish, ...

Re: Seattle area tasting, January 29, 2011
What does everyone think about a theme of "Best of the 1980s"? That would give us a little broader choice, and it would let Glenn save more of his 85s for the tasting in 2015. Just a thought.

I'm reasonably certain that I can make it on either of those dates. Unless something weird happens. Count me in.

Hm, maybe I will get in touch with the store and find out for sure. I didn't think it was the Dona Matilde, as I've had that in the past and didn't care for it very much. I guess it's a mystery for now...

Re: A Few Short Notes, Kopke and Rocha
I showed up at the World of Wines tasting just in time to miss Glenn, it sounds like. I won't be posting tasting notes, but I will say that my favorites from Glenn's list were the 2007 VP and the 1991 VP. (Except I thought the 2007 was Rocha, not Kopke? Maybe Roy can confirm this for us?).

Re: João Nicolau de Almeida - November's Guest Corner Host
Greetings, Joao. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. The tawny is a very unique culture on wine ageing. We have to follow almost in a daily basis the many casks where we age the wines that we have in our cellars. We have to treat them if they are sick, to let them breath if they n...

Glenn, World of Wines in Redmond is having a tasting tonight that includes Kopke and Rocha, at which I understand Sandra will be present. Details on their website.

Oh, I wish I had been there to share the festivities. Glad you all are having a great adventure. Hopefully my turn will come soon! In the meantime, I'll hoist a glass (or two) of Quevedo as I celebrate my 30th birthday.

I was able to download the newsletter, but not all of the photos showed up. Any idea how I can get a version with the photos? (I know you guys are busy, take your time, no worries, but I thought it would be fun to look at them eventually).

Re: Shipping season is near... Anybody get their Quevedos from Flickinger yet?
I received my shipment on Friday, all safe and sound. I opened a bottle of Oscar's red for a casual pizza dinner with friends. I found that I enjoyed how it tasted alongside our green salad with feta vinaigrette. I'll be opening some of the Port (along with my 1980 Colheita) when my family arrives f...

Re: Wine Barrel Flooring
I love this flooring as well, and I seem to recall seeing it elsewhere but can't rememeber where now. I'd love to have it in my kitchen when we remodel our house, but I don't think my husband is as keen on it as I am.
