Beemster Vlaskaas cheese

Somewhat non-port related as this cheese is probably best suited with white wines, but my wife and I have fallen in love with Beemster Vlaskaas cheese. It's kind of hard to explain the flavor aside from calling it addictive. It starts off sweet and has just the right amount of sharpness to it (I've ...

Re: A 'dumb" question about vintage declarations

I'll add another slightly dumber question. About how long until a new vintage like the 2009 shows up on the market.

Re: Tawny Ports - Any variation on different bottling years?

Ok good, that's what I was hoping. I did consider age might change it a bit, but I didn't think a year or two would be too drastic.

Tawny Ports - Any variation on different bottling years?

I was wondering if tawnies with age indicated vary much depending on when they were bottled. I'd assume each brand would like to keep the flavor consistent but is that realistic to assume? So are all 20 year Taylors basically the same, or are all 30 year Dow's the same, etc.

Re: The Best Cigar I Ever Smoked

Sorry to bring this old topic back, but just wanted to make some comments. Roy, lucky you that you got to have a 7 year aged Cuban, I'm only buying my first batches and haven't even reached 6 months yet. From what I've read Cubans tend to change as rapidly as month to month with aging and by around ...

Re: Why don't more people visit movie theaters anymore?

I worked in a movie theater for 5 years so I thoroughly enjoy seeing things on the ultimate of big screens and good sound systems. That being said, I tend to watch dramas or non-technical movies less and less at movie theaters these days. Not having kids yet and still having single/childless friends...

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions

The I want to stop thinking for a night and watch something pretty movie [shok.gif] : Tron: Legacy The story isn't Shakespeare, but it's passable and the visuals are just a joy to watch. I highly recommend the Blu Ray version to get every bit of quality out of the visuals as possible. I first watche...

Re: Non-Portuguese port-styles - Growing market? Or diluted by truly dessert style wines

There are really at least two different things going on in your question. The first is whether or not non-Portuguese fortified wines that are made with Portuguese grapes and using traditional production methods should be called Ports. The second is whether or not the rest of these quasi-port-like f...

Non-Portuguese port-styles - Growing market? Or diluted by truly dessert style wines

I figure I'll ask this one while I have a low post count and not a whole lot of ports under my belt, hehe. Think of this as not getting on a soap box as it's not a big issue, but maybe standing near it. :soapbox: I'm wondering why many non-Portuguese style ports don't come as well regarded as the Po...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

While I'd go back to the lounge, I'll stick to their excellent $14 Mojitos and avoid their port selection. For $14 I hope that's one hell of a Mojito! There was a bit of sarcasm there, haha, but I should also mention I had about 3-4 waters to go along with it. It actually was good though, a...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Roy, I'm sort of kicking myself for missing that event, but I was in Las Vegas for the weekend for a bachelor party. I'd definitely be up for checking out other local events. As for cigars, I'm really trying a little bit of everything. I think I'm leaning toward maduro types with sweeter (not infuse...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

36 x Generation III Port Style wine from Ferrara Winery in San Diego, California 2 sips of Fonseca 20 year Tawny OK, so I bought 3 cases of Gen III ($42/bottle), but only one was for me, the other two were for my father and brother. Great stuff, but they don't ship so I had to go to SD myself to pic...

Re: Retail in Seattle area?

I agree with Roy on Redmond Fine Wine & Cigar. I accidentally ran into this shop and while they're prices are a bit high on some things, they do keep a wider selection than your average shop.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hello everyone, glad I could find a site to help give me some direction on what to look for as I prefer ports over most other wines. Normally I would rarely drink anything but on my wedding I was given a certain type of cigar that started major vice # 1 for me as I enjoyed the flavors and, even more...

Re: Do you have a favorite non-Portuguese port-style that you love?

Mine would have to be the Generation III Port (Great butterscotch flavor) from the Ferrara Winery in California. I'm still new to ports but this is the one that got me started. I'm actually headed there this Thursday to pick up a case for me, my brother, and my father that I had reserved because we ...
