Re: What have you opened this week?

Next up will be a Warre's Otima 20 y.o. Tawny. That will be gone in a flash too [beg.gif] I wasn't expecting a lot, but it's actually pretty decent. I'd buy it again. I have had it numerous times as the Danish importer are friends of mine. I like that is fairly aged (as the colour reveals) and very...

Some really nice QPR's you got there. I am a huge fan of all 3 of those ports. Great pickup. [dance2.gif]

Re: please educate: San Leonardo vs. Mourao

Both Blackett and Sao Leonardo are for me in the tier 1 of blended tawnies with an indication of age. Doesn't hurt they blend in older stuff than needed. [yahoo.gif]

Re: please educate: San Leonardo vs. Mourao

Hey guys, so it turns out that those Tawny prices mentioned were for the 50cl bottles which makes it less attractive, but still I'm tempted. I remember to have seen some comments in the past here for Quinta Brunheda - would this be something interesting, too? No idea, so completely depending on you...

Re: What is this?

It was a really nice night Mike, great wines all-round. The tasting theme was the that the 2 chairmen of our port club got to chose some favourites for the club to taste. So a bit of a mix of the different categories. I chose the 2017 Graham's, 1996 Vesuvio and the 1966 Wiese & Krohn. (The 1991 ...

Found a picture of a 1977 Ferreira VP too and added it just for the documentation. Same bottle type and also wax neck.

Re: What is this?

Based on the bottle shape I would guess late 70's or 80's. That is based on that was also the period where Ferreira used the same bottle shape. At least for their VPs. As you may know Ferreira and Offley are both owned by Sogrape. So it makes sense in my mind. The 1975, 1982, 1985 and 1987 Ferreira ...

Re: Drink vintage young or leave alone and drink Tawney and LBV

The question is: "What is your preference"? How do you like the taste profile of your VP? Once you have figured that out you need to identify how the VPs of the different brands age so you know when to drink what. The vintage plays a role also but modern wine making has taken some of the r...

Re: How many bottles of VP do you consume pr year?

Why did COVID shift you towards drinking more VP in your own home as opposed to tawny? Oops, I missed this question when you asked it! During the pandemic, I had a very small group that met semi-regularly to drink Port. We called it our "Port Pod" and it consisted only of other people who...

Re: How many bottles of VP do you consume pr year?

I went through some very similar thinking 10-15 years ago. I looked back at the bottles I had taken out of my collection in each of the previous 5-10 years for drinking at home or for sharing with others and concluded that I pull about 78 corks a year from my cellar (that’s 1.5 per week). Next I lo...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Congratulations! Thanks. With Denmark's advance into the semifinals of the European Championship I opened a newly purchased 1995 Churchill's Auga Alta (cellar defender). Pretty mature for its age with notes of rhubarb and strawberries. Still a little tannin left but this is probably nearing or at i...

Celebrating the birth of my daughter Hollie with a glass of 1997 Warre's VP.

Silky smooth entry with herbaceous scent, jammy fruit and a nice firm backbone of tannins and acidity. This is a great port which will grow old and become outstanding. 93 points today. [cheers.gif]

That was the one I though of. But I might have asked a question that had more than one answer. As Ferreria has a Quinta do Porto 10 year old as well? So I guess since Eric M. was first he get to ask the next question?
