Re: Your favorite dessert with Port?

I usually prefer a nice blue cheese with my port (Stilton or Roquefort are my favourite), though some of these desserts above sound pretty tasty :D

Nice graph! I'm looking forward to the 2010 declaration that apparently is sure to be ;)

Re: Newsletter Format Question for Subscribers

I'd vote for keeping them in too. It's nice to be able to just scroll down and skim the notes and easily read the ones I want to. If I had to click for each one it would probably result in me reading less TN just due to the inconvenience factor. It would also focus me more on the ports I already kno...

Re: FTLOP Gala II

It'd be nice to have in 2009 just to call it an "annual" gala ;) even if it does mean flying to the east coast. I'd vote for it being subscriber only as it seems like a pretty nominal fee for a weekend of such amazing ports! Maybe you should charge a fee to recover some costs of hosting > ...

Re: Is anybody into the Vancouver Winter Olympics?

I loved the women's freestyle skiing action and was amazed that Canada did not pull off the Gold in that event. I've been loving the Olympics (being a Vancouverite, it's easy to get caught up in the action!). I actually attended the women's freestyle yesterday and it was quite exciting, though it g...

Re: January 2010 VT : Open some 10+ year LBV

A few days late to post, but I did taste in Jan ;) It took me half the month to realize 2000 vintages now count as 10 years old! 2000 Dow LBV Blackberry, spices and floral aromas on the nose. Lots of red fruits and hints of dark chocolate. A bit of a bite at first with a smooth finish. Quite enjoyab...

"Consuming a full bottle of aged tawny port requires at least six people."

I bet a few people here could disprove that sentence, myself included ;)

Re: Which shops have a large selection of Port around Seattle?

I'll be driving down to Seattle this weekend and was hoping to pick up a VP or two, does anyone have a recommendation for a shop in the city or is the shop in Redmond my best bet? The city would probably be preferred as I don't want to drag my friends around ALL day looking for Port ;)

Re: Do you drink more Port alone ... or with others?

I probably drink most of my port alone, maybe a 70/30 mix with friends and family. My friends do enjoy drinking Port, but often can't tell the difference between a good LBV and a VP. So it seems I end up sharing alot of my LBVs and drinking 375ml VPs to myself. I usually bring a 2003 Noval LBV to in...

Very interesting and I like the bottle. Any word on if it's coming to Canada or just a US exclusive for now? I may have to search for a bottle next time I'm in Seattle.

Re: 2007 VP buying guide

I'd recommend Noval and Graham's, my two favourites thus far!

And as Eric recommended, Roy's tasting notes for the 2007 vintage are a wonderful resource and definitely helped me in my buying decisions.

Port Vineyards for Sale

Was just searching around the web when I stumbled upon this: http://www.winebusiness.com/RealEstate/postingDetail.cfm?listingId=41374 Over $300+M of Douro vineyards for sale. I'm amazed their valuations are that high, seems pretty steep but then again I have no idea what their financial statements l...

Re: TN: 2006 Quinta do Econtro Merlot-Baga Bairrada

Decent wine for it's price (<$20 CDN), though I did some searching around on Portuguese wine blogs and found it goes for 3-5 euros at home! That would be your Monopoly hard at work to ensure the government gets a piece of the pie  Oh don't I know it. It leads me to believe $20 is a good price ...

1964 Krohn White Colheita Port

1964 Krohn's Branco Colheita Port Very light golden/orange colour. Honey and oranges were both on the nose and the palate. Raisins, light spices and a bit of nuts swell. Wonderful long aftertaste and very well balanced. It was excellent, though I tasted it right after Dalva which made it tough to co...

1952 Dalva Golden White Colheita Tasted on 12-01-09 Very light golden/brownish colour. Sweet, light dried fruits and caramel on the nose. Carried through to the palate. Apricot, vanilla & light spices. Citrusy as well, with orange and lemon in the background. A great balance in the acidity. Very...

Re: 1988 Taylor's Quinta de Terra Feita Vintage Port

Admittedly, I did post this TN after the first glass. I ended up drinking the bottle over about another 3.5 hrs and it probably did improve by 2+ points during that time.

I've never seen one of these bottles around my parts. Found it at Azeitoneira do Porto :D

TN: 2006 Quinta do Econtro Merlot-Baga Bairrada

I was in one of my local wine shops (Kitsilano Wine Cellars) and spotted a Portuguese wine on the staff favourites list. Remembering this forum recently switched over to non-Douro wines as well, I decided to give it a try. 2006 Quinta do Encontro Merlot-Baga Bairrada DOC 1+ hr decant (12-20-09) Medi...
