I've tated it 2 years ago and it was very fine. Quarles harris are for the medium term drinking IMHO and this one is a fine example from this house, I've tasted the 83 and 85 too and the 77 is the best. Fully mature right now, its show complexity and finesse of an old VP.

You should enjoy it a lot.

Crusted port is a high quality ruby port bottled without filtration, the name crusted comes from that. I have tasted only 2 sor far, Dow and Graham. Dow was really good but Graham not. Crusted Port is supposed to age pretty well, forming the crust as it ages. I never had an old one but I would be ve...

I prefer Vintages on tawny but great tawny and colheita can be as great. I find it easier to finish a bottle of VP than tawny style.

Hi Chris, this is a fortified wine from Australia. I never liked them very much but for the price it definitively worth a try before buying a few if you like it.

Andy, never had this one but a few other Single Quinta vintage from Dow's. Normally they are ready to drink for my taste after 15 years. 1986 produced decent Single Quinta Port, do decant it 3 hrs prior to serving and it should be good.

Never had the 97 but the 2000 and 98 which I had 2 times each were of very good quality considering the price and the 2000 a good step ahead. It is a very good VP to drink after 15 years of age. Do not get confused, it is not made from grapes from the Quinta do Silval, it is only another Noval brand.

Fonseca Guimaraens is the company or producers and Fonseca is the brand for their declared Vintage Port, like in 2000. Some wine shop could display both names. But in undeclared year, like 2001, Fonseca Guimaraens will release a vintage Port called Fonseca Guimaraens but they don't release both VP t...

Volatile acidity is mainly caused during the process of fermentation in the lagares or in barrel elevage. It is often caused by the development of unwanted bacteria. For the 1985 vintage, the reason why there is VA is that during the fermatation days, the temperature was very high in the Douro so th...

Ontario realease their 2003 VP

You can go to the web page by following this link: http://www.vintages.com/futures/ports-bordeaux-futures-2004/ports-2003_list.html Prices are really good compared to what we paid for the 2000. For example some have significant price drop, Vesuvio from 95$ to 79$, very interesting! They should have ...

I also thought that Malvedos was a blend and not a single quinta just as the Guimaraens Port when the Fonseca was not release. But with the quote you have I took my book from Richard Mayson and here is what is said: "Altough Malvedos name has been used purely as a brand in the past, a vintage p...

They are not yet realeased in Québec. Ontario is releasing a catalog to order them from the 16 of August. In Quebec if they do what they do with the 2000, they should be available late 2006 spring. For the prices the Fonseca/Taylor should be around 140$can so around 110$us Ontario is often 10% cheap...

Not Port but sweet stuff.

Tonight I drank a "vin de paille" translated "straw wine". Spirale produced by Domaine André et Mireille Tissot. It is not really a vin de paille as they required 9% of alcool by the AOC, but they find it was so good at 8% so they bottled it like this. It is a white sweet wine fr...

I'm gonna try to answer this question with what I think maybe the answers: 1- Transportation cost, obvious that it cost more to send bottles to US than UK. 2- Margins, could UK selling margins be lower 3- Primeur buying. When you compare the 85 fonseca, maybe the UK is still selling the bottles he b...
