Re: The BEST of the "off" years ...

Without doubt 1987! I've had several bottles of the Boa Vista 1987 from Offley's and it's still drinking well! If I may put 1978 and 1982 as off-years then I must say I've had quite a lot of nice ones. This winter we had the 1982 Nacional for example - not a typical Nacional but still lovely bouquet...

Re: What is your favorite grape and region for WHITE wine?

And the winner is....Riesling! Sorry Roy, I'm following the others in the thread so far. A German Riesling whether it is from the Mosel region, Nahe, Pfalz, Rheingau is my pick and these are also the wines I collect. When checking the German Riesling's dominate amongst my whites with a 90% rep...

Federal law prohibits....an old Kopke.

Once in a while my supplier in Lisboa finds some oddities I simply can't reject! The Kopke Vinho Velho was one of those and I simply has to show you the bottle! If it were ment to be shipped to the US (on the shoulder it is printed 'Federal law prohibits sale or reuse of this bottle') I will probabl...

Re: TN: 2006 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva Douro

If you buy two cases then it must be a nice drink  Thanks for the comparison between the '05 and '06! I only have a magnum left of the 2005 and will try to keep hands away. My problem is that the really good Douro table wines has such a beautiful structure already as young, and a fruit that's a...

Re: 2007 Quinta do Crasto

I can only imagine how the Vinha Maria Teresa tastes like in 2007! I've had the 2005 twice with consistent notes at 95-96 p and would love to hear more on the 2007 when you have any update to share! [cheers.gif]

Andy, have you had the 2005? I loved it but must confess I've been a bit sceptical on buying the 2006. If you've had it - a comparison?

Thanks!

Re: TN: 2007 Alvaro Castro Quinta da Pellada (Dão)

Hi Ronald, I had the 2000 Qta da Pellada half a year ago and it was pure pleasure! It had aged beautifully and didn't show any signs of falling apart. Now, I consider myself a Daoist and love the floral and elegant style of the region, so I could be a bit subjective, but Castro is most definitely am...

Re: TN: 2005 Pintas

Hi Pedro, A friend of mine bought a six-pack of the 2007 and I was allowed to buy two of them! I know I should keep them for a long time but I will have real issues in doing so. Curiousity finding out if 2007 is the best ever as I've heard will mean at least one bottle will have to be sacrified for ...

TN: 2005 Pintas

Brought a 2005 Pintas with me to a BYOB this weekend. This one really shows why Sandra Tavares da Silva is one of Portugal's stars! The project Wine & Soul which she runs with her husband Jorge Borges is produced near Pinhao in Vale de Mendiz. They own some parts themselves and the rest is bough...

Re: When do you drink Madeira?

Whenever I feel for it! There's always some open bottles at home so the mood will determine....but I have to confess that the 10 YO Verdelho from Barbeito is my all time favourite and consumed fasther than a Boal... Thinking of opening a Tinta Negra Mole single vineyard now when the weather is so ni...

Hi Scott! I was curious as well and had to check with my "contact" at IVBAM. Here's the answer: ' Dear Niklas, After confirming with our department responsible for certification, those letters refer to the series: One letter – bottles capacity superior to 600ml; Two letters – bottles capac...

Home made Pasteis de Nata's and 1998 Blandy's Harvest

Returning home from Madeira didn't stop our cravings after Pasteis de Nata's so when Easter arrived my wife baked a dozen herself :D What to drink with them? Well, an espresso really does the job, but now this is a Madeira forum, and me more in the mood for fortified, the choice fell on the 1998 Bla...

Re: TN Caves Velhas 1966

Hi Andy & Al, I've tasted the Caves Velhas from 1947 to 1978 within the last two years. This wine really impresses in its ageing capability. The 1947 for example, tasted 1 1/2 year ago, was remarkable and could easily last another four or five years. The 1964 was also a very fine example. The 19...

Re: Madeira - an update of our current visit.

And there it ended! Monday was a great day including both an intense tasting at Barbeito, followed by yet a visit to the brothers of Barros and ended with a good bye at the neighbouring house, d'Oliveira's and Luís! Best in show this day; the 30 YO Malvasia at Barbeito's was a true masterpiece of wi...

Thanks guys! I must admit I've been a bit conservative when it come to what's on the tele or pc when the kids are watching. I mean, I don't want to watch pokekom or anime in any way when the soon to be three wants to watch cartoons with me - no we watch Tom & Jerry, Donald D, Casper and some cla...

Re: Madeira - an update of our current visit.

An absolutely great day on the island today! We were extremely lucky when deciding to go up to Pico Arieiro, 1818 meters above sea level. Not only was the sun at its best . no clouds at all when we came and that is quite unusual. So from the top it was a magnificent view and we could see all the way...

Re: Madeira - an update of our current visit.

Today was a good day - no, great day! We started in the morning going to Calheta and the IVBAM Campo Experimental da Calheta . Invited by IVBAM we were going to meet Mr. Magalhaes who manage the vineyard. Narrow small roads, foggy and not an easy place to find even with a most competent guide! But s...
