Re: Vintage Porto Pocas 2011 at WTSO
WTSO offerings seem less interesting in general compared to a few years ago. I don't remember the last time I pulled the trigger on something from them.

Re: 3x per decade, a thing of the past?
Another question I have is why no general declarations in years ending in 8 or 9 (not knowing if 48 and 58 were generally declared, but the 40s were a war decade, so I can see an exception there)? Is it solely because the decade's quota was exhausted, or was it just coincidence that such years have ...

Re: 3x per decade, a thing of the past?
It would seem like the only reason to informally regulate when to generally declare (3x per decade) would be about regulating the inventories of VPs. If there were four stellar vintages in a row, what could happen to inventories? And if there were four not so good vintages in a row (71-74, perhaps?)...

"I used to have a drug problem, now I make enough money." - David Lee Roth Finding the deal is always a real thrill. The key is being able to exercise restraint after finding the deal, because this is a finite exercise, after all (for me, anyway). How much can I keep on hand, and how much ...

Thanks for this note, Andy. I have four of these bottles from that liquor store scoop I mentioned awhile back, by the way. Next time I will make sure the decant is done right. I probably didn't decant long enough last time.

Re: FANTASTIC ARTICLE -- DOURO LOVERS MUST READ
No doubt about it, that Pato Maria Gomes is a great value, and it's offered online even cheaper than the article suggests. Admittedly I haven't gotten to try any whites from the Douro region yet. I don't think I've even seen one offered here before. Other regions, I've certainly tried, though. Reall...

Re: 1970 vs. 1985
I ask this because in some cases, the spread seems pretty out of whack. I'm guessing more people would gladly pay 2.5 times for 1970 Nacional than for Fonseca versus their respective 1985s, for instance. Another factor is how does this pricing matrix shape up when 1977 is added to it? That seems lik...

I haven't tried their 2011 but going by past vintages this is really good stuff for the money.

Jury's in Chicago used to be my go to place. It was also the place that really got me into port in the first place, as they had an annual port night that was loads of fun. The owners retired and sold it, and it is no longer. Oh, a current place, you ask? There are so many places here, I have to say....

FXE chart looks bullish here. EU policy is tighter right now, and we have been looser with ours. Whoever is right or wrong, that is why the euro is rising against the dollar.

Re: POLL: Is paying corkage fee "worth it" in a restaurant?
$15 isn't that much in the overall scheme of things when you bring in a bottle you bought for, say, $40, and other restaurants want to charge $125 for it (assuming that we can't do this exercise when a restaurant forbids you from bringing in a bottle that's already on their list). They will probably...
